whatchagonnadoboutit

^ you got it !!!

Haha, I like this thread!! G!!!

Reminder - It’s okay to disagree, even sharply, and argue about ideas. Personal attacks and insults aimed at individuals are not allowed.

Is (3) a point to be made in favor or against Princeton? I’m guessing it would attract more students than it repels.

^^I don’t know. I’m sure different individuals view it differently. But #3 is commonly used against Princeton in these debates. Along the lines of: “I (or my S/D) was thinking of applying to Princeton, but I got totally turned off by the snobby eating clubs…”

LOL! Props to Coreur.

Pro-Harvard: 2, 9, 11

Pro-Princeton: A, I, K,

Disagreeing with the premise of F, Princeton has some great graduate programs.

Kudos! Extra points for Princeton partisans who can make their reasons spell out a word. One more pair of reasons would have helped. We could have made words with an “o.”

This is such a funny and useful thread it deserves to be bumped for a new class of high school students to use.

Good luck to the young people applying to Princeton under its new single-deadline system of admission, and to those applying to “peer” institutions that have also set aside their early admission rounds.

A few changes on the Princeton side since then…such a great thread.

A) Princeton is ranked #1 by USNWR - this year all by ourselves…
B) The COHFE survey shows that Harvard students are unhappy and dissatisfied with their school
C) Harvard has Final Clubs which unlike Eating Clubs are not single sex
D) Anyone can eat at an Eating Club
E) Eating Clubs don’t cost anything extra…actually they do but Financial Aid will cover almost all the difference except a social fee which is like many other organizations
F) Princeton has great undergrad focus and isn’t distracted by professional and grad schools
G) Princeton’s Gothic campus is much more beautiful than Harvard’s dreary pile of bricks
H) Harvard is just a famous brand name that doesn’t live up to the hype
I) I’m a current student at Princeton and I can tell you that all the bad things you hear about it just aren’t true
J) Harvard students are all pompous, competitive cutthroats
K) Princeton gives the most generous financial aid of any school
L) I visited Harvard and I hated it
M) Here is an article from Harvard’s own newpaper confirming all the bad things about it
N) You are just a Princeton-bashing ■■■■■

Well personally, I hate these chest thumping comparison posts, even when theyre meant to be humorous like Coureurs. However, as long as it has been revived, it should at least be corrected. In the following quote:

I believe Coureur meant to write the following:

C) Harvard has Final Clubs which are single-sex and mostly male-only, unlike Princetons Eating Clubs which are all open to both men and women.

Courers quote unintentionally implies the reverse.

I personally prefer the following list:

A) Princeton and Harvard are both ranked among the best undergraduate schools in the county by USNWR but they are not the ONLY two great schools.
B) There are students at BOTH schools who hate their experiences but nearly all are happy with their future alma mater.
C) Both schools have a wide variety of social options for students, including social clubs but also including a myriad of interest group organizations.
D) Anyone can eat at an Eating Club and Final Clubs do extend invitations to outsiders.
E) Cost is generally not a reason for students at either school to avoid the social clubs.
F) Princeton and Harvard BOTH have a great undergraduate focus and world-class graduate programs.
G) Both the Princeton campus and the Harvard campus have interesting and dramatic architecture (okay, maybe Princetons is a little better)
H) People who have never attended either institution often say that both Harvard and Princeton are just famous brand names that dont live up to the hype.
I) Current students at both schools will have had a variety of personal experiences, some good and some bad, and they will all be able to tell you that most of the stereotypes about their school are false.
J) As a group, neither Harvard students nor Princeton students are pompous, competitive cutthroats though each school is large enough that you will always be able to find a small number at either place that meet this characterization.
K) Both Harvard and Princeton are incredibly generous with financial aid though they structure it in slightly different ways.
L) I attended BOTH schools and found much to appreciate at each.
M) Both the Harvard Crimson and the Daily Princetonian will publish articles critical of their respective institutions. This is what journalists SHOULD do.
N) Princeton-bashing ■■■■■■ should be relegated to some infernal place to provide company for the Harvard-bashing ■■■■■■ who will join them.

people choose harvard over princeton because people just think of “harvard” as the number 1 in the world(oxford is for girls) and princeton as “just another ivy”

People that know schools i bet would say princeton is better.

lol isnt byerly that harvard fanboy who ■■■■■■ the P-ton boards?

BUMP. this is important.

This thread is brilliant!

Ah, the timelessness. :)

“C) Harvard has Final Clubs which unlike Eating Clubs are not single sex”

I think you got it backwards haha.

Otherwise, excellent post!!!
