Happier List - 19 for 2019

@powercropper -I get mine through Kroger pick up and love it!!! Most of my items automatically pop up and I can set up a recurring list for each order. So easy and well worth the time to setup!!! It truly is something that makes me very happy each time.

In my large metro area, most of the grocery stores I shop at are now linked to Instacart. So I can get home delivery. Trader Joe’s is still a 30 minute drive for me, so I don’t get there often.

I signed up for a once a week Chinese ink painting class in NYC. That already takes care of two goals! I feel happier already.

I worked on my list a bit today. It reads a little like a Resolution list, but I approached it as a list of things that I acknowledge are good for “self-care”.

Some I already do. Some I forget work well & are easy to inexplicably stop. Some I’d like to do more of, even if it takes the form of baby steps, & cannot be done in total & “perfectly”.

I am a cheap skate & full of guilt re: spending money. This served us well in the toughest times, but it can also increase suffering & dampen joy.

I too appreciate this thread. Here are a few items that have sprung to mind since I read the OP’s first post.

– Be less judgmental.
– Listen to music more often.
– Focus as much as necessary (i.e., when I’m feeling stressed by my job) on the fact that my family is the most important thing in my life.
– Invest in home improvements on an as-affordable basis: new washer and dryer, new windows, and the list goes on.
– Listen more, talk less. (This might sound like a resolution, and it kind of is, but I’m pretty sure I’ll feel happier if I don’t think I have to solve other people’s problems.)

Another thing that is helpful to think about with this happiness list is to choose statements that you can review later and with confidence say, “yes, I did that!” - so myself, I would avoid things like “be less judgemental” - that’s hard to measure, hard to “check” off the list. I’m going to review my list every quarter or so - I’ll be sure to be noting that here too on this thread if you like. And I would encourage people to share a happiness success- when you accomplish with satisfaction a happiness task!

Like the idea of reviewing (for possibly adding a new thing or two) quarterly. Add something fun. One summer, it was to go to a beachside restaurant every few weeks.

If you’re on Instagram you can search the hashtag #18for2018 you can see examples of people’s lists from last year.

Ha ha, I’ve already been less judgmental, just in the past two days!

Thanks @abasket You can also follow #19for2019, which I am now doing for a little inspiration :-*

Hope to finalize my #19for2019 list today! I will share it when I do.

Ahhh - it’s a local non-profit organization where I live - I community garden there but they also offer pottery classes, gardening, cooking classes, etc.

My happy list reads more like a “to do” list but I’ll be very happy if half of it gets done.
Guess for personal “pick me ups” I’ll go with cutting more flowers on a regular basis.
And buy myself a new bicycle.

And go out to a movie on a “date” instead of just staying home.

End of the first month! Reviewed my “19 for 19” Happiness List today.

Made some progress on a couple:
Tried a new exercise class!
Am monitoring my actual screen time on my phone (getting a report each week- now need to reduce time!)
Have read one book.

MUCH more to go but it’s in my mind all the time!

“Make a will” - That’s a great idea . It gave us peace of mind to finally do that a few years ago. We also did Medical Directive etc… in some ways even more important .
