any recs on who to take/who to avoid for General Chem II…Org Chem…HumanPh/Anatomy…Calculus? I am a transfer student and some of my courses did not transfer to UNC. I need recs on what are good classes to take to fulfill literature req and pre-1700 history req!! thanks

My 2 cents on class selection – take anything taught by Jan Bardsley (asian studies dept). She does a couple lit in translation courses that are fun as well as informative. Visser (also Asian Studies dept) teaches cool courses about modern China, very edgy and sometimes very theoretical.

I took Intro to Econ with Boone Turci. I took the honors section cause I figured, more attention, I’ll learn more. Bad decision for me, worst grade here so far (and Im going to be a senior next year). If your brain is not wired to be a natural at econ, then avoid Turci. I think it might just be my problem though. I’m terrible at econ.

I like small classes, have only taken 2 big lectures so far. As long as you don’t pick someone who gets terrible reviews on ratemyprofessors.com you should be fine.

None of my classes have ever started before 10, only a few before noon. I find this works out fine, though science majors will not be able to do this ever.

liziziz-really? what sorts of topics does she cover on modern china? does she talk at all about pop culture?

Well, kind of, but not fluff courses. The last course I took with her was called “Post-Mao Urban Culture and Arts in Modern China”. It was partly about urban identity and partly about the developing civic culutures in urban areas. Really interesting. The course I’m signed up for but haven’t taken yet is called “Narrative Ethics in Modern China” – it’s about interpreting different influential authors like Lu Xun and how text and reality interact. I think it’ll be really fun.

She also teaches some upper level Chinese courses, I think.
