This site really helped me last year, and it’s also helped my brother, so I wanna give back a little by posting about his cycle. He just got into Yale and Princeton (I can’t find the decissions thread on their sites)! He also got into Harvard (scea) and MIT, still waiting on Stanford (go cards!)

Accepted into Harvard! I was waitlisted at Columbia and Princeton, and denied at Penn and Cornell. Congrats to all those who may be my future classmates, and also congratulations to all of you who did not get in; you will all end up successful and happy wherever your future lies!! Go H!

My daughter was rejected Harvard, but totally expecting it! For what it’s worth, their rejection letter was so much nicer than Penn’s!! She got in to Dartmouth…not choosing between Georgetown and Dartmouth. Probably going with Georgetown.

So, why do I think I was accepted to Harvard?

To set the record straight, I did not have legacy/athletic/minority status. I’m a white, middle-class male from New Jersey who just worked their ass off, like a lot of you, and applied myself, also like a lot of you. My essays are where I really believe I set myself apart and gave Harvard a sense of who I am. My common app essay was about struggling to accept my homosexuality, and how I grew from a self-suppressing individual into an open, prideful one (there was a lot more to it, but I won’t bore y’all). For the short supplement “essay”, I talked about my enjoyment of snowboarding and nature, and added a lighthearted dimension with some commentary and remarks about Robert Frost and Shaun White. Where I feel I made the biggest statement, however, was the supplement where students could submit what they wished; I submitted a “note to self”. This note just documented everything that went on in my life, mostly good/funny/small events, and was written from current me to my 5 yr old self (after reading it, I cried lol)

Finally, the biggest push for my application (once again, in my opinion) was the fact that I was awarded a second interview; both interviews went extremely well.

I hope this post gives some students next year the motivation to apply to Harvard.

Denied, but ACCEPTED TO PRINCETON (which was my #1 choice anyway)! Congrats to all admitted, and at least I can say I was only rejected by Harvard (out of 11 schools…)
