Harvard Class of 2021 RD Thread

Waitlisted! May be z-listed since I’m a legacy but who knows. Got into Berkeley and Tufts… most likely attending Tufts!!

@LindsayHarvard LOL Im sorry I dont respect cheaters. You dont how it feels because you are on the other side of the equation. Dont judge me if you dont even know me (and I personally think thats high-key offensive). Good day.

@JuicyMango You seem like a very serious, intelligent young man and I feel for you in this stressful process. However, that “acceptance” post is clearly a joke. Gf is a legacy? The essay about fear of peanut butter? It was a 1st time poster trying to sow negative feelings. Keep your chin up and be proud of your accomplishments.

Im pretty sure this person is just making stuff up. There’s plenty of these posts around all this time.

@JuicyMango I wasn’t reffering to this post in particular but the numerous other posts you have made and specifically the comment about how the top reason someone would get into a college is becayse they’re latino and wanting to be a urm specifically for college. You’ve been judging people across numerous bordes for the past few months. I may not know you but I’ve seen enough of your posts to fell comfortable making this judgement.

@LindsayHarvard referring, feel, because*

Sorry I’m against reverse discrimination. Just a personal opinion of mine. Why does it matter what I think? They’re still getting in, aren’t they? Why are you so concerned about my views and opinions. It doesn’t take away from any of their achievements/accomplishments, I just personally want a complete meritocracy. Stop stalking my posts, that’s weird.

@Alamom Sorry, I was reading quickly and didn’t realize it was a troll post. Unfortunately, I’ve seen similar types of people getting in so I was fooled.

If I said I was accepted to Harvard but rejected by All Ivies, Duke, Georgetown, Berkeley, Amherst and Williams as an international student from Poland, which is massively underrepresented and rarely has any admits, would anyone believe me? Literally Im so done with so many people, friends and family, being like “prove it because its so unlikely it couldn’t have happened”.
Sorry for the rant, I’m in Harvard College not Harvard Law to have to be questioned on every statement I say… Congratz to anyone accepted, hope to meet you in the Fall!

@JuicyMango Im not stalking you. We applied to similar schools and you make the same loud post in every single one. Hard not to notice. They’re offensive because they perpetuate a racist belief that these people wouldn’t have gotten in under the “right” system.

Also thanks for the spellcheck I guess.

Ok…lets talk about waitlisted chances…Any information? I saw that waitlist in Princeton was 4.8%…

waitlisted and not committing

What are the chances of getting accepted from the Harvard wait list?

From top college’s point of view, it’s not about getting best students but building a class with a makeup they want. They, who are in education business, have the right to do that. Sometimes I think people forget that. For me personally, there are maybe less than 4 colleges where I would agree to send my kid, with his particular intended major, at full pay. I would not have minded at all sending my kid to a state Honors College on a near full ride scholarship over any HYPSM.

Regarding the affirmative action posts, I understand both sides here. My daughter has no hooks and had she “checked a box” she may have gotten in to Harvard. However, we are perfectly fine with her NOT getting in to Harvard (I was 100% sure she wouldn’t get in!) because we agree with the above poster that the schools have the right to balance their classes as they see fit. I also know that my daughter had A LOT of advantages over other applicants that enabled her to have higher scores and achieve things she may not have otherwise achieved. And if my daughter were an ORM, she may not have gotten in to Georgetown and Dartmouth, the two schools she is now choosing between.

Affirmative Action is really necessary because we need to make sure our top schools truly represent all of our nation’s communities and provide opportunities for everyone, not just people born in to the right zip code. Where is gets squishy is who really deserves to claim the hook and who doesn’t. I’m sure we all know some people that have been accepted with URM status that were just URM’s on paper and might have even led very privileged lives. (This especially happens at the need aware schools, in my opinion where they need people that can pay!)

But I truly think Harvard and the other top need blind schools are different. I think they do a good job of really picking the right people, whether they are ORM’s, URM’s, or just plain old white folk. If Harvard accepted you, there is definitely something very special about you @LindsayHarvard and you should continue to hold your head high…you deserve your acceptances and I’m sure will chose the right school and hopefully stay on the path to make this world a better place. In the end, I think that’s what this whole debate is all about anyway.

Good luck to you too @JuicyMango I don’t know where you got in and where you didn’t, but if you didn’t get in to a school that you had the stats for, I’m sure that the school you end up at will have many academically talented students as well (because this is happening to so many hookless people, right? And you all have to end up somewhere!). I’m sure you will find your niche, broaden your perspective, and in the end thrive in whatever career you end up in.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:
And on that note, if anyone wants to continue the discussion on race in the admissions process, there is a whole thread on the subject.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1843141-race-in-college-applications-faq-discussion-12-p1.html
However, as it is not a Harvard specific topic, let’s dispense with the conversation on this thread.

Harvard is totally overrated, in every sense except few graduates schools, that are truly amazing. Undergraduate school teachers are not nearly as good as the graduate schools ones. The campus is terrible, tons of homeless, tourists, and traffic; and the dorms, except Dunster House are old and depressing. Final Clubs??? Awful!!

@MeHowPL Curious–did Harvard gave you enough financial aid to attend?

Hi, I got waitlisted. Harvard is still truly my top choice. What should I do? Obviously I’ll have to put down a deposit for another school, but what can I do to increase my chances of getting off the waitlist?

Surprisingly accepted into Stanford! Very humbling! This was the least place I expected to get in considering their really tough and unpredictable process where many qualified applicants that are accepted at HYPMC are rejected. Good luck to all!

Will harvard inform my school if i got waitlisted?
