How much Harvard places importance on the Mid-Year report, a couple of AP classes went down, while a couple went up.
Any internationals with an interview yet?
no?
My son is an International and no interview. Only one university scheduled an interview with him.
Same, no interviews in my region yet
Can someone please speak up , this conversation seems so dead
My daughter is a current first year who was admitted off the waitlist after having accepted an offer from another school, so we really know how challenging the wait can be! Hang in there and wishing you the best!
Could she transfer in the 2nd year to Harvard if she wanted to?
Has anyone received the likely letter from Harvard?
Turn down a wait-list offer but be guaranteed transfer admission? No. One can defer enrollment for a year if accepted on Ivy Day but enrolling in a different university voids the acceptance offer. Wait-list offers are for that September only
We had a very short time frame to either accept or decline the offer, which was limited to entry to the class of 2028. She said yes and enrolled at Harvard, then informed the other school of her decision so that they could offer someone on their waitlist her former spot.
Also, it would have been unlikely that she would have received the offer had she not written in her LOCI that, without hesitation, she would attend if admitted.
After she accepted Harvard, another school that put her on the WL initially offered her a spot. Is this right? I got it backwards earlier
She initially was waitlisted by Harvard. As an unhooked RD applicant from a large public non-feeder high school from which no applicants had been admitted in the past two years, she knew that her chances of being admitted off the waitlist were very low, but nonetheless, she submitted a LOCI and additional LOR to strenghten her application.
With no further news from Harvard, just prior to the May 1 deadline, she enrolled at another uni where she would have been very happy.
May 16, she received news from Harvard that she had been admitted to the Class of 2028 and that she would need to inform them by May 23 whether she planned to accept the offer of admission - and she did.
Anyway, I totally understand that the nature of the process may make it seem like time is standing still.
I hope that you are take good care of yourself and are enjoying your senior year!
Thank you for the information. Did she have any issues with the other university when withdrew her enrollment? Did they ask why? Just to be prepared in case we run into this situation this year.
Thatās true for any college. If you get accepted off the wait-list, you only get a few days to decide.
As for withdrawing from the first school, there are no problems. It happens every year. But to state the obvious, you will lose your deposit
That said, donāt plan on getting off a wait-list. If it happens, great. But plan on loving the college that loves you back.
The withdrawal was easy. IIRC, she sent the admissions counselor a note stating that she had been accepted off a waitlist elsewhere. They sent a gracious response that let her know that she remained in good standing with them and left the door open for if she were interested in transferring there later or applying for grad school.
One thing to keep in mind is that there is a cost. We didnāt ask for her deposit back as we knew the deposit was nonrefundable when we paid it. I would say it took a while to work through the various systems - so she received roommate requests, reminders to register for various activities and classes, etc. after withdrawing.
Probably best to return to more Class of 2029-focused topics, but please feel free to send me a DM if you end up on a waitlist and have any questions.
Edited to add I agree with skieurope that āloving the college that loves you backā is the best plan at this point in the cycle.
All the best!
Anyone else get a second alumni interview?
Not even the first one
Same. Not even the first Oneš
DD just received an alum interview invitation. The interviewer did Harvard CS undergrad and law. DD applied CS and is excited to learn from someone who majored in the same field.
