Harvard compared to Oxford (undergraduate studies)

The problem with your argument is that you seem to assume that everyone wants to work for a small little business with the human resources department consisting of the manager’s wife working on a Saturday. We could discuss every state in huge detail, but seeing as you mention Greece, you will know that firstly many top graduates do choose to work outside of the country given Greece’s rather high unemployment rate, and that many firms in Greece (as in most countries) are not Greek firms. I know someone who is financial director for a very large firm currently opperating in Greece, and heck, he got a degree from Nottingham. Wonder how he did that?

Maybe your argument is true and the rather insignificant balkan states do “prefer” a Harvard degree, but in terms of job market prospects many graduates will choose not to return to their home state, and the total number of graduates from theses states is so small that it is barely worth the debate.

Oh and in response to your sweeping generalisations, I will use mind-numbingly childish anecdotal evidence, I have two friends, one from Estonia and one from Latvia, both say Cambridge is the most highly regarded university in their country. Not that they would consider working there once they have their degrees.

I think it is intersting to respond to the person who said in the US Harvard is better know, which is ofcourse true. An interesting fact to consider though, it that if you do come from a country with a poor economy, your chances of being able to stay in England and work with a Cambridge degree after graduation are very high, as UK immigration is not hugely difficult for graduates. In the US, on the other hand, on application for you visa they have to be convinced that you do not plan to stay in the country. There are opportunities for graduates to stay, but much less so than in the UK.

I talked about my country and the Balkan states. Harvard for them is better, and what I said before for Greece still stands. Dont try to invalidate the arguments about Greece cuz u dont know what it’s like. As far as the other ones, my point is that u cant say that simply because Harvard values ecs, it’s inferior to Cambridge.

<quote>Let’s face it. There are plenty of Americans who have never heard of Oxford or Cambridge. And yes, many of them actually have hiring power (I have encountered these people). But it’s hard to find any American who has never heard of Harvard.</quote>

Do you really want to work in that place? especially if you’re an Oxbridge grad?
