I really think you stand a pretty good chance at any of these schools. Harvard’s never gonna be a sure chance for anyone; but, by all means, apply!

I agree that your ECs are the strongest part of your app. How do you get involved in research? I’d like to.

Chance back please?

I messaged you the research link

I am not going to tell you which schools are reaches because, like everyone else here, I am not qualified to do so; however, I will tell you that there is no single thing that will make your application look bad. You are both well-rounded and very strong in all aspects of you application. You can only wait. It is not about stats at this point.

On another note, I find it interesting that your school does not use unweighted GPA. What made the school make the change (or not use unweighted in the first place)?

My school decided not to use unweighted GPA because they make a distinction between regular classes and Honors/AP classes by giving students who are enrolled in these classes an additional point (hence the weighted GPA). However, I believe they should revert to unweighted GPA becuase there are too many people taking AP classes just for the extra point and not for the love of the subject or the challenge.

So since my school uses weighted GPA, class rank is even more important for me becuase it shows the colleges how I do in the context of my school.

Based on the stats statistics of these colleges I think you have a good shot. Honestly when you get to such high test scores it is generally hard to make a decision on whether or not you will get in. Since you are highly qualified the rest is pretty much luck. You fall in a good range for all of the schools.

On another note, if by “Indian Male” you meant Native American your chances have increased considerably. Native Americans tend to have the best chances at admissions. If you mean Indian as in India, then your chances haven’t really increased.

Overall I am sure you will get into at least one of those schools. If not, apply to Thiel College. (my brother goes there lol)

Decision: Accepted to at least One

By the way you applied to almost all of the same schools as me.

Awesome!!

No I mean Indian as in a person who is from India -.- I wouldn’t be making this thread if I were American Indian, lol.

I still think accepted to at least one, regardless of your race.

can u message me the research link. i love reserch thankss

Same please!

Hmmmmmmmmmmm? What are you guys talking about? What research link?

The one that you PMed liv4physicz, about how to get involved in research

Your EC’s are decent. They don’t stand out to me at all. In my opinion, not Harvard quality. The person who said that this is the strongest app on CC is crazy. And to have a paper ubder review unfortunately won’t mean much at all to colleges. Only a publication in print or on PubMed online at the tiem of application will matter.

Yup, I’ll send it to you, Data.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/massachusetts-institute-technology/1063562-math-competitions-research.html

Post # 3 on that thread. Look at the rest too- it’s helpful.

@8yearman- thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I’ve been trying to get it published before I applied to colleges, but it wasn’t able to be done. I guess I’m hoping that if I’m spending around 20 hours in a school week on research related activities, then it will show my dedication. That means around 4 hours a day on top of everything else…which is basically like a part time job, haha (w/out the pay, of course).

Do you have any suggestions on what I could have done to make my extracirriculars stick out more? I mean I’ve spent a good amount of time on each of the activities, I’ve been playing chess for 8 years (20+ trophies, VP, Co-Captain, USCF rated, City Champ X2), table tennis for 6 years (nationally ranked, won multi-state tournaments, MIT Connhua captain, Pres + Founder at school, ranked #2 junior in state), math competitions for 6 years (B Team X2, A Team X2, State Qualifier and New England qualifier X2, Euler Award, 3rd Highest scoring junior, League Champs X4, State 3rd place), science bowl for 6 years (A team captain, state champs X2, B Team captain, Coach at middle school, Chem Olympiad Qualifier- State Champs, JSHS qualifier), and volunteering for 4 years (Local/State Proctor, HS Campus Leader, Tutor for high school students, Key Club, Cultural activities) in addition to my research…what else should I have done?

You dont have the greatest hook in the world.
adcoms like to see 2-3 spikes, like the poetic quarterback,
or the scientific lacrosse player who analyzes the physics of Lacrosse (Me!)
us Indian males got it hard, dont we?
I am crazy for Cornell/Upenn/JHU pre med
but yea dude good luck. I’m only in 10th grade, so what do I know.

I do not have an actual hook (legacy, URM, recruited athletic etc.)

Interesting…I do remember writing an essay about analyzing the physics behind table tennis, it was very fun to write!

The thing you could have done is simply different activities. The sad thing is, that the activities you ahve done are so common that even with a strong dedication to them, they just don’t stand out. The thing is, you CAN have a hook just because of an EC. They are not impossible, just extremely unlikely - and that’s what the great majority of kids who get into Harvard and the like schools ultimately have. And in terms of comparign yourself line by line to other kids who got into some schools…don’t do it. There is no way to compare your essays, and in my opinion, the best compliment on an essay is not that it “displays strong dedication to…” or whatever he said - but that it “SOUNDS LIKE YOU.” In all reality, when an admission officer is reviewing these, and they see an essay, they see a list of activities, and they see a review by an interviewer, they are looking for a CONFIRMATION that this person is the same all around. That the personality that certain activities that the applicant has done are reflective in not only the tone of the interviewer’s notes, but also in the positivity of the teacher recommendation letter and finally in the voice of the essay. That’s the ultimate applicant - someone who carries through. That’s the best way to show passion, by sounding like you! Nothing else can recreate it. So when people say that they are confident that they will get in because their friend got in with similar stats, it is SO flawed - and furthermore results in people calling admissions a “crapshoot”. I don’t believe they are, and instead think that 90% of admissions go beyond the stats taht kids post on here.

If you are trying to tell me playing table tennis at a national level and researching 20 hours a week is “common,” then honestly, I’m not sure what the hell you are thinking.

Anyway, no use in worrying about it now, it’s over :). Just have to wait 2 more months

I don’t know why are you even making a chance thread. You are a very strong candidate. You shouldn’t worry much about admissions. You are academically brilliant, distinguished tennis hook, chess champion, researcher, whoa! You are IN!

Now please throw some light on my essay. You read it a long time ago.
