Harvard SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

I’ve been gone from the thread for a few days, and I overheard something I want to comment on.

Somebody said (presumably to someone who was talking about their “hooks”, etc.) that “You have a lot of diversity and diversity is what Harvard wants.”

I wanted to begin a discussion/ pick all of your brains for a second. Would you agree with that, or do you think that Harvard wants diversity and so it fills spots with certain people – making the class diverse, not simply the individual people are diverse?

@giraffeinatree Alright, thank you for the info!

@schroscat You’re an incredibly strong young woman! Your story will inspire everyone to shoot for their dreams. I really hope you get accepted! But please keep this in the back of your mind, a rejection only means Harvard is losing out on an amazing student. Wherever you end up, I KNOW you will do greatness and your mom will be proud either way.

@aharper98 That is such a great article!

@PancakeGirl100 Oh my dear God, thank you so, so much. I’m honestly so humbled  I really appreciate that…I was beginning to doubt my abilities because of college admissions. You’re the best <3

@bearcon pm me!!!

If you all think you’ve been wasting time, I have spent the last two days reading this entire thread… argh, and I find out the results in the middle of a track meet

@careybanana First off, WHAT AN AWESOME PROFILE PICTURE!!
Also, that sucks. Maybe you should check 'em while you’re running the hurdles!

Lol, nice guess, I actually am a hurdler XD. Also, yours is pretty darn cool as well, loving the bookmark

@careybanana I always guess hurdles because I did them back in the day…I’m really short so I looked like a reindeer doing them :frowning:

So just wondering, will you all create a new thread for acceptances or will this one stay alive?

I’m kinda dreading track season because college apps are during the same time. I’m a 110 hurdler what about you @careybanana? Are you a recruited athlete.

@careybanana From what I’ve seen…this thread stays alive until January. Then, I don’t know what happens. (I’m basing this off of last year’s SCEA applicants.)

@collegedreamer1 I run 300 hurdles and do pole vault, not recruit though. I would much rather continue my dorky activities in college (basically marching band…) than run. I’m not too concerned about the spring since I’ve already finished my apps

There’s a separate results thread

I have been coming on this thread for the past few days, and I am honestly so nervous now. I have an unopened Harvard t-shirt that I am too afraid to wear till until after decisions come out. College apps are so stressful…

MARCHING BAND BUDDIES

Wow. Amazing stories for amazing people. mine is pretty…blah in comparison. For my common app I wrote about my background as a latina and how I’ve always felt so disconnected because when I speak spanish I have a strong english accent and I do not look “stereotypically hispanic” and how I’ve learned to embrace my culture. and My supplement is my relationship with my brother through his video games. I would watch them and they actually formed a lot of parts of my personality.

@collegedreamer1 Welcome! I always think it’s great when people say “i’ve been lurking for a while on this thread…” and then finally decide to chime in. The more the merrier.

Also I just woke up from a nap. I dreamt that Drake (the rapper lol) had like a top secret commercial he was filming that I was like accidentally in. And then after that I was with the gang from Friends as they tried to track down some actress in Hollywood. Good times.
