Harvard SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

@schroscat Yesterday I was doing a practice AP essay for Lit. It was our first poetry analysis. I was trying to describe the rhyme scheme of a couplet, but I didn’t know the word “couplet”. I was running out of time and couldn’t figure out a good way to do it, so I wrote a mathematical for loop in javascript to describe the poem…

So in the middle of my comprehensive poetry interpretation essay, there are 2 lines of code in pure Java.

We did peer review grading today and my grader was very confused.

Ayye lmao

@schroscat We have mass every wednesday, but they are chill and let sophomores-seniors go to study hall instead if it isn’t a holy day of obligation.

@LymanZerga I wouldn’t say there’s an explicit cutoff but 750+ is ideal. If you dip below 700 that might be a weak point in your application

do you guys go to catholic schools?

Does anyone else get annoyed when you tell someone youre applying to harvard and they say “WOWW thats super hard to get into! dont get your hopes up!”

@lilypippili I have one 780 and a 710. Hopefully other parts of my app will override those scores.

@lilypippili yes. I like it and hate it. Baptized catholic, now a staunch atheist. I like the private school aspect but my religion teachers will say things that are so ignorant toward other religions or beliefs. And just so much of our religious education is just embellished facts to further their own ideals.

@LymanZerga It’s actually really nice getting literature from them. It brightens my day.

@Pernix I am so incredibly proud of you. A+. 100. Beautiful.

@tuty143 NOPE. I gotta stick with the Jesus. It was fun because one year, I sat with a bunch of my friends. The row was as follows: Catholic, Atheist, Protestant, Satanist, and Muslim.

Nerdy confession: I play dungeons&dragons.

@gracie21 Quite the opposite. Everyone tells me how amazing I am because I applied to Harvard and I’m just like “Guys… All that tells you is I have $75 -.-”

@gracie21 well i usually jump in with a quick “& they reject 95% of applicants so im not getting my hopes up ha ha ha hA HAhahahHAAHhhaHAHAHAAAAA” turns into single homogenous puddle of tears

So luckily i dont have much experience w/ ppl bein like tht

Nerdy confession: I used to build legos…obsessively…

@Pernix I’m in the same boat. And everyone assures you you’ll be accepted.

The school valedictorian is convinced I’m going to be accepted. Maybe it’s because I sing about physics obsessively. Maybe.

@Pernix for me it’s a lot of “You’ll get in!! youre the smartest person I know! stop complaining because my gpa is worse” and then I feel bad :frowning:

“You got interviewed for Harvard?? OH MY GOSH SO COOL!!!”

@LymanZerga The 780 is great and I don’t think the 710 is something you need to worry about as long as you worked hard on your application. If anything I think the subject test scores are used as a comparison between two students who have similar backgrounds and activities (even then there’s a whole lot more going into the decision: gpa, AP scores, sat scores, etc. it’s holistic  )

@WTylerL @tuty143 I can totally relate… I have around $10 worth of bets going that I’ll get deferred.
My friends are much more confident in me than I am, and I’ll feel extra bad when I make them pay up xD

Anyone here know how to do Calc 3? I have my final tomorrow and I am going to die…and the day before Harvard decisions of all days!!!
