I had my interview from Harvard with an admissions officer yesterday. Do you know what the purpose of interviews are? Do you think it has something to do with the virus delaying the admissions process?
I got an interview too but I don’t know what the purpose is.
@weij98 what was the style of the interview if you don’t mind sharing? I’m confused as to if they’ll be asking about us/aspects of our application or if it’ll be centered around Harvard.
wow! congratulations! what did they ask?
how were you notified? they just emailed you to set it up?
They asked questions specific to my application and my reasons for transferring. They referenced things my recommenders said and my experiences at my current University. @nomdeplume520 They asked a combination of both, but I would definitely read over your application again to refresh your memory on what they might ask.
I received an email from an admissions officer last week requesting to meet with me over Zoom. Have you heard of any other students who were also receiving interviews? I know Yale had a similar situation where they sent out interview requests to all the applicants.
Very cool. Would anyone happen to know of a Harvard transfer applicant admitted without being asked to interview first? I ask because I only know of one Harvard transfer applicant who was admitted, and she was also interviewed.
@gujianing I’m not sure since I don’t know any Harvard transfers myself, but I always assume that colleges can never interview everyone due to time constraints so I wouldn’t put too much stock into it.
@weij98 I don’t know of anyone else who got one so I don’t think it’s like Yale’s. Also pretty sure that Yale is just randomized questions that everyone gets.
On harvard’s website it says that they generally don’t conduct interviews for transfer students so if you got an interview that’s a really good sign.
Did you guys apply to Harvard in high school? Perhaps people that didn’t get an interview in HS, they get one during transfer?
This is my first time applying and I didn’t get an interview.
For the people that did get an interview did you submit your materials early?
I’ve never applied before, and I submitted my application on March 1st.
Then in that case you definitely must’ve stood out to them . They have probably already done a preliminary read of all the applications and are now reaching out to certain applicants if you submitted yours on March 1 and you already got an interview. That’s a good sign.
@LapisLazumarril I had applied last year, but was waitlisted. Does anyone know when they might be sending out the admissions decision? I know that the pandemic has shifted the timeline a bit
Congratulations! @weij98 and @nomdeplume520
Does anyone have an idea about how Harvard sends the interview invitations: all at once; in batches or as they progress through the applications?
Does not getting an interview indicate clear rejection?
I don’t think it indicates clear rejection. I was reading in a past thread that a kid from Cornell got an interview but was rejeceted in the end. If anything they are on the fence about you and want to get to know you better. It doesn’t mean that you are a shoo-in.
When do you guys think the decisions will be out? They’ve been saying, till 1st July but I think they’ll try to release them on time - Mid May.
I don’t think they’ll wait till July or even June, virtually everyone would withdraw their applications and commit to other schools.
Past decision release dates:
Friday, May 8th, 2015 @5pm EST
Friday, May 6th, 2016 @6pm EST
Friday, May 5th, 2017 @5pm EST
Friday, May 4th, 2018 @5pm EST
Monday, May 6th, 2019 @5pm EST
Despite past trends I don’t think they’ll be ready to release decisions on the first Friday of may this year(05/01/2020). I think they were aiming for Friday May 8th, but it’s possible we’ll have to wait till the 15th (since A LOT of schools are releasing on or before this date as well).
I just had my interview with an admissions officer too. I asked about admissions timeline and he said hopefully May, but if it needs to get pushed to June they will be letting us know. I really hope they don’t though. I’m pretty sure they’re aiming for the 8th because its the award date on the CSS Profile, and last year’s decision date was the award date as well. Hope all everyone gets good news though!
does anyone know of a transfer applicant who was admitted without interviewing first?
