Harvard Waitlist 2015 **discuss here**

Oh my god, I’m watching a Doctor Who marathon too right now. Are you psyched for series 6? :D

yessssssssssssssss! <3 lool i like how they made a doctor who version of inception…haha

Hmm, does anyone know if being waitlisted affects your financial aid? I know it’s not really relevant unless you get pulled off WL, but one of my teachers brought it up yesterday as a factor to consider.

I think Dean Fitzsimmons has mentioned somewhere that WL students get equal treatment for FA when they get pulled off of the waitlist.

Is it just me or does it seem like there are a lot of people rejecting Harvard?
It seems Visitas didn’t go over well…

I know two families who went to Visitas and neither of those kids were terribly impressed.

does that mean they won’t be accepting? ;p

Really? I have 2 friends who went and they both loved it. Weird. Well, here’s to hoping ;)

I posted the below on another thread, but I should have posted it to this one.

Unless more students turn H down this year, H may not need to go to their waitlist.

Using H’s 2014 data:

2110 (accepted students) - 1663 (matriculated students) = 447 (students turned H down).

447/2110 X 100 = 21.18 percent of students did not matriculate, for a yield of 78%.

Using the same formula for 2015:

2158 (accepted students) X 21.8 (percent of students who do not matriculate) = 470 students.

2158 (accepted students) - 470 (students who will not matriculate) = 1688 matriculated students.

1688 is 25 seats higher than last year’s 1663. Assuming that H will not be increasing the number of available beds this year, those figures do not bode well for waitlisted applicants.

These numbers are off. Harvard took 94 people off of the waitlist last year. So it is 2110+94-1663 at a minimum. No one knows how many people on waitlist said no before they took the final 94.

Gibby, your numbers are off.

According to [Harvard College Admissions § Applying: Statistics](http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/apply/statistics.html), last year they admitted 2205 students and 1664 students matriculated. This would imply a 75.5% yield and if you use the same percentage for this year’s 2158 admitted students, you get approximately 1629, which leaves room for more waitlisted students

It is truly amazing that anyone here thinks “beatlesdisturbed” is
legit…he is a blatant ■■■■■. This chap claims that he "called the admissions office at Harvard "to request that his spot be given to someone on the waitlist!!! How incredibly
fake and ignorant. It makes you burst out laughing. And that is not
enough! He claims that the Dean called him back and agreed to give
his spot to someone on the waitlist. My my. What luck that this ■■■■■
was able to suggest such an ingenious solution to Harvard as to how they might dispose of a spot that our ■■■■■ had declined!!! Why is this ■■■■■ not being laughed right off this forum???

There are 2 problems with trying to determine how many students will be pulled from the waitlist: gap years and z-list.

If you attend the Gap Year forum during Visitas, Harvard makes it clear to every admitted student that H will hold the spot for any admitted student who wants to take a gap year. You don’t have to have some grand plan–if you just want to wait a year to enroll, they are fine with that. So those students “accept” H but are not immediately enrolling=open spots.

Then you have the z-list. These students were accepted the previous year but REQUIRED to take a gap year=spots filled.

Only Harvard knows how many z-listed students are coming and no one, not even H, knows how many students will decide to voluntarily take a gap year so it is impossible to determine how many waitlist spots will be available.

In a day’s time the unis should know their yield…let’s all hope for the best! :D

does anyone know if last year they emailed anyone around may 1 saying whether or not people will even be admitted off the waitlist this year or not?

I’m not a ■■■■■, and I have nothing to say to people who think I am a ■■■■■.

Just rejected Harvard…it was much harder than I thought it would be. Good luck everyone!

Using data posted on last year’s waitlist thread, and updating it:

Class App. Adm. W.Ad.
2010 22753 2109 16
2011 22955 2058 50
2012 27462 1948 227
2013 29114 2046 80(ish)
2014 30489 2110 94
2015 34950 2158 ???

Okay, I know I said in an earlier post (on one of the waitlist threads) that it was pointless to recite endless statistics…doing a bit of research is actually a bit of fun xD

Should I be worried if I didn’t receive confirmation that they received my intent letter.

Sent from my DROIDX using CC App

Nice data Arsennalinho LOL. :D

DarkDwarf, I haven’t received a reply either…I hope it is not a source of worry. ><
