Harvard Waitlist and Yield Class of 2017

“BTW: Harvard’s total admits from last year is listed on the stats page as 2,076 (higher than published totals in the Crimson). That may be due to Zlisters being included in the overall number. Harvard has about 1660 beds”

This is because they admitted 46 off the waitlist and originally admitted 2032 if I remember correctly. So 2076 is the final number. Some from 46 may be zlisters but I know several who thought they were initially admitted to zlist off the waitlist actually made the 2016 cut. D was on the waitlist thread and so I followed last year’s waitlist very religiously. They started throwing people of the waitlist in bunches when they determined gaps did not exist based on the student’s profile. A major chunk of the waitlist was thrown out at one point but a few on CC remained on the waitlist who got offered positions.

Suffice it to say national awards actually make zero difference for those on waitlist. It is more important to Harvard to fill the gaps - these might be based on Social economic status, geography, major, race or sex more than anything that the candidate may have done.
