Harvey Mudd College president appointed to Microsoft board

<p>An interesting move by MSFT:</p>

Microsoft named a college president and computer-science professor as its 10th board member Monday.</p>

<p>The board also declared a regular quarterly dividend of 13 cents a share, up from 11 cents in the same period a year ago.</p>

<p>Maria Klawe, president of Harvey Mudd College, in Claremont, Calif., and a decorated computer scientist and mathematician, joined Chairman Bill Gates, Chief Executive Steve Ballmer and seven others on Microsoft’s board of directors. Gates and Ballmer praised her technical acumen.</p>

<p>Her appointment restores the board to 10 members after Jon Shirley, a former Microsoft president and director since 1984, stepped down in November.
