Has anyone been following the Flint water crisis?

The governor just doesnt get it! He says, Ï have to live with this the rest of my life". No, you dont. The poor residents of Flint will live with this the rest of their lives, or maybe not since some of them died from legionnaires disease.

Oh dear God those poor kids. I must admit I loved seeing Snyder being attacked by the committee. I’m praying for a lengthy prison sentence.

That statement from the governor reminds me of the BP guy whi said he wanted his life back.

Wow–scary times! I remember them testing the kids at the elementary school for lead levels but don’t recall if the water was tested. Fortunately, our kids were found not to have lead, but wow!

I watched most of the hearing yesterday. Snyder makes my blood boil. I wanted to punch him in the face when he said he had to live with this the rest of his life.

No, Snyder, no you don’t. You don’t have to watch your kids deal with poisoned water. You don’t have to wash, shower, and brush your teeth with bottled water. You don’t have to make trips 3-4 or more times a week to get crates of water. Oh… and you don’t have to do all of that because of decisions outside of your control.

Successful businessmen often believe they understand how to run a government … but what they don’t understand is that the responsibility of a business is to maximize earnings for its shareholders, while the responsibility of a government is to balance the financial well-being of the community with the welfare of its citizens. I would argue that it is quite different than running a business. Not just Snyder …

You just hit on one of my pet peeves, @kelsmom - the idea that we should run the country like a business. It’s absolutely absurd. If we ran this country like a business, one of the first things you’d do is merge Delaware and New Jersey. Why have two little states with double administrative costs? Merge them, and fire half the middle managers, right? The next step would be to assess which states are non-performing assets. I’m looking at you, Mississippi.

That’s just the beginning.

The State Committee’s report was released this week. No surprise that it found fault at all levels of government, but particularly in the Governor’s Office and in that of the Emergency City Manager. There needs to be indictments in this case. These guys never feared that they would be officially contradicted or rebuked. To them, the people’s grievances were a minor annoyance to be perpetually disputed or ignored for as long as possible.

Charges filed:

Rachel Maddow is supposed to cover this extensively tonight if anyone wants to tune in.

They’re giving the press conference now and the AG said there will be more charges.

I hope they go after the right people. Our AG is grossly political and biased.

impossible, everyone knows the Republicans are to blame because they are racist.

(sarcasm)

^ is that supposed to be bait?

This is one big cluster#$%^@, on all sides. In the meantime, residents are getting no relief.

I think that’s what’s been lost in all of this. The residents STILL have undrinkable water. The residents are STILL using bottled water for literally everything… bathing, brushing their teeth, washing their hands, and so on. Can anyone imagine that? I certainly can’t, and I’ve been there.

the problem is that even if 50 billion dollars feel from the sky and it was 100% for digging up and replacing the pipes, sewer plants, water treatment plants, installing modern sensors and equipment it would still take 5-10-15 years to redo. I have watched a 5-6 year small project near my office. not even close to being done. lots of people standing in a circle talking , a couple of guys sleeping on backhoes and bulldozers. so sad…it is like saturday night live did a skit about public works projects and it was 100% spot on. flint…even if the money was of zero issue needs a major major major redo! it may never actually happen. it is sad.

Yes you are absolutely right, zobro. However, the least they could do is deliver water rather than making people go get them several times a week. Or, you know, provide the large water jugs rather than small bottles of water. Or, a bunch of other things that would make their lives easier.

Charges finally! But this doesnt help the poor families that have a lifetime of medical issues.
