<p>My D will be going back to the summer camp in New Hampshire where she’s been both a counselor and a camper. This will be her 13th summer there. She loves it! She’s reached the top position (program director) and won’t be living with campers this summer. She’ll have a cabin with another program director. She doesn’t get big bucks–but enough so that it’s her spending money for most of the school year.</p>
<p>The Mom: Could we be sharing the same child? I only get vague responses about how he’s planning to spend his summer, whether he’s applied for jobs or internships, etc. Yes, it will be a painful summer for both of us & I’m not looking forward to it. </p>
<p>Congrats to those of you whose kids have been more proactive.</p>
<p>Son is starting a job now that finishes in late June. He also has applications in for two REUs but I think that one is unlikely as it isn’t directly in his major area. I think that he has a decent shot at the other one. The current job would be a problem for REUs because most start late May or early June. I wouldn’t mind if he didn’t have an internship for the summer as he did one last year and has the RA job this spring.</p>
<p>He’s going to do applications for local companies too so there’s a possibility. He has worked very hard for the last three years and he could probably use a break. We need to spend some time fixing his teeth and a little international travel would be fun.</p>
<p>I’m not sure what our daughter is going to do. I’d like her to look around for local jobs, maybe a retail job that involves technical work. She might take a few courses too.</p>
<p>I have a summer job already. I’m going on 3 years working for this company in the summers and over breaks. I’m not sure how much time I’ll get to work there this summer though. I have already been offered a paid internship in Wisconsin for 9 weeks. I am waiting to hear from a few other employers that I have applied to for internships.</p>
