Have you ever received a C in a class?

Fifth grade reading. The teacher gave me a zero on a whole book because I went home, read the whole thing, and came in and told the class how it ends. It was Hatchet, so it was worth it.

Since then, A's except a 92B in AP Bio this quarter. It doesn't affect my rank or GPA. I'm still bitter, however.

^ Dude that's retarded. My mom would've outraged at that. That's no reason to get a 0. And Hatchet was such an anti-climatic book to read in 5th grade.

I got a C in Algebra II CP sophomore year.

I was in a hunting phase at that point, so I thought it was pretty epic. But yeah, they were freaking out on the teacher. Then they realized it is 5th grade. The grade means nothing. I was crushed. So I proceeded to get 168 AR (Accelerated Reader Points) <-which was/is a school record.

Actually I doubt you guys know what Accelerated Reader is....

Not as a yearly grade; 3 or 4 as quarter grades though.

Okay please explain to me how a "normal" high school grading system works. I am on a block schedule. The longest courses are semester courses that would be equivalent to a full year non block schedule course. But we get a final grade that goes onto our transcript and into our GPA every quarter (8-9 weeks). You're telling me here that a normal system only gets yearly grades on a transcript? That's just not fair.

the only reason i never got a C in high school is because if i got a C in any class, i would have had to take the final for that class. except for 2nd semester this (senior) year, i have gotten all As. this semester, i got As and Bs

jkaufman- At my "normal" high school we have 4,9-week grading periods. We receive a grade for all of those, then take a final that is a certain percentage of our grade, average them, and there is your final grade. The final grade is what is on our transcript. However our class rank and GPA is based off semester grades (the average of the first two nine weeks is one semester grade, the average of the second two nine weeks is another semester grade)

How is it unfair?

plenty of them.

I had 3 C's and 1 D freshman year.

I know what Accelerated Reader was, when I was in 6th and 7th grade we had it. I had 300-600 points by the end of the year in 6th grade, a school record. 7th grade they made me read college level books.

Yeah, my 168 was about a 6-week period until the end of the nine-weeks.

Define college level books.

we had this thing where we had to write down all the books that we had read (many years ago). i read a bunch, and after i handed in my sheet the librarian took me aside and started yelling at me.

Librarian: You cant just put down random books! You have to actually read them! Do you not understand the purpose of this assignment?

Me: I read the books.

my parents had to come in and yell at her for accusing me of lying

Whatever they had in a special section of my library. I sadly cannot remember a single title.
Ours were in 6 week periods. I had over 150 in a 6 week period.

I was just wondering because to me there is not exactly a fine line between "high school" and "college" level readings. I read my first Shakespeare book in 6th grade, yet I just read Hamlet for Accelerated 11th grade English this year.

^ I believe they did mix the HS and College Reading. I read Shakespeare and was absolutely bored by it. The sexual overtones were not interesting in the slightest.

^False. Sexual overtones always make a book better

i've gotten a few C's and a D in my freshman/sophomore years. This comes from an HS with serious grade deflation.

My freshman & sophomore year i failed most of my classes, but junior year i got higher then b's because i moved to texas, and u hardly do any work, the classes r super easy.

(well in south texas they are haha)

I started out poorly my freshman year, and even got a C+ in an incredibly pointless classs. This year as a sophomore I kicked it in gear and got a 4.0 uw, but my GPA is still like a 3.87 uw. Which isn't bad I suppose, but had I actually cared my freshman year, it would be a 4.0.

in eight grade i got a C and a B for algebra 1-2. I didn't really put much effort into the class. This year i got a 4.0 for first semester and hopefully a 4.0 for second. If i don't fail any of my finals.

I just got a C in calculus, but that's only because I quit towards the end (because I have to take it again at my CC in order to take their multivariable calculus course, and I've not taken the AP calculus exam). Calculus: 1st semester: A; 2nd semester: D; final grade: C.

I barely put any effort into either semester, though. ) :
