Have you ever taken a break from the Internet?

Is it an addiction if you can stop when you have other things to do? I rarely use internet while on vacation and don’t miss it. Also, we never use phones while eating.

No, but I should! Never my phone, it’s being on my laptop here at home.
Funny this should come up because I was just lying in bed last night unable to sleep for obsessing about a dozen little projects I need to finish up and about an upcoming dinner party. :::::::::gulp::::::::

I’ve been on CC for many years and usually give it up for Lent because it becomes a time-waster, and also this is the time of the year that I need to do stuff like spring cleaning, yard work, taxes, etc. This year I gave up TV because I found that the constant barrage of crime stories, political stories etc.was stressing me out–plus other time-wasting shows, TCM addiction… I did not cheat, but I did watch an art history course on DVD. H and I are info. junkies–definitely a sort of addiction. Always more to know. Internet is like constant IV drug feed.
Last year my D had a birthday party. We had non-stop fun games/activities planned. ( These were 4th graders.) Kids sat on their phones. One girl asked me several times if she could use my phone to text her mom to ask her to bring over her ipad. . . (Heck NO!) I should’ve collected all devices at the door! Just sad to see half the girls playing a game, and the others on their phones/ipads.

Sometimes I like to have my phone shut off especially on Sundays. There are days when I’ve had enough and don’t want to be on the computer anymore. I remember growing up without this technology and we managed to keep ourselves busy. I wish our kids got to experience living like that for a week. (no phone, tablet, laptop) I honestly feel we would be less stressed because with the internet we are constantly bombarded with information and are brains are constantly processing it.

I rarely watch TV (Downton Abbey was an exception), but I am on line too much. I have thought about taking a break from Facebook and cc.

And then again, I might have to take a break from FB around election time!
