Hawaii - Christmas 2026

I have a flight to Maui I just booked yesterday (for March). I thought I would have to book using Alaska’s site, but it told me I couldn’t pick my seats because it was a Hawaiian Airlines flight - so I backed out, logged into Hawaiian, booked using frequent flyer miles, picked my seats and done.

I will certainly hope they get their issues in order by March regarding checking in, etc.

I’ve spoken with Alaska about an upcoming 5/2026 flight. I printed the info but won’t be surprised if there are changes. It’s hnl to jfk.

During Covid we did a nice trip to the big island without kids. Our friends had a large waterfront house in Waikoloa with a beautiful pool but not really any easy water access. While beautiful it wouldn’t be a place I’d go with young kids. They took us to Mauna Lani beach club which was nice. We had lunch and a swim. Our friend’s dad owned a condo in that area and we used their golf cart to go down to the beach. I can’t recall what complex but it was next to a hotel and was walkable to the beach. I think the units were just two bedrooms but had views. We have considered this as an option if we went with kids, renting two units. We also looked at a complex Kulalani that had larger units. Not walkable to the beach and no views.so would need golf cart but they had nice pools for families. We also looked at some condos in Mauna Kea that I think might have hotel privileges.

There is a condo complex next to the Westin in Hapuna Beach where all units face the ocean. I think it is called Hapuna Beach Residences. Owners and guests staying there can use the Westin’s pools and other amenities. But the condos are 1-3 bedrooms and cost $$$$ per night.
