TCK is the acronym for “Third Culture Kids”–those that grow up outside the culture of their own nationalities. We see lots of “Americans” by passport who’ve grown up outside the US because of their parents careers who associate more strongly with the culture of the country where they’ve lived than they do with US culture, but even then they aren’t “of” the nation where they live either. Sometimes coming “home” is difficult when they’ve never really lived here, but everyone thinks of them as Americans but they don’t act so much like the dominant culture. It’s a very interesting group of kids. Richmond is lucky to have quite a few of them, so if your daughter can be described this way, she’ll have peers with similar experiences to relate to. I’m at home today so I don’t have all the dates at hand. We would have classified her as an “American Abroad” when she applied (most likely) if you are living abroad and she’s in a school there. Those things would have triggered us to see her a bit uniquely even if you have a postal address in the US for convenience of mail delivery. I’ll be back in the office on Tuesday and will post it or you can send a message to intladm@richmond.edu and someone who is there tomorrow can get you the dates.

Cheers!
