HealthyHabits - what Oils & Fats do you use in your kitchen?

Thanks @abasket. I do Nutrigrain Eggos (unless DH shopped and bought blueberry), but I’ve wanted to find a healthier option.

I’ve become a big avocado fan (good fats, though high calorie; also high in fiber which seems odd to me) Sometimes at breakfast or lunch I’ll do an ad hoc avocado toast (a healthy bread toast + 1/2 avocado mashed with garlic or some “pimp your salad” toppings I bought on clearance).

I just returned the Costco 1 liter container of EVOO. We simply don’t use oil fast enough so am sticking with the macademia nut oil which comes in 12 ounce bottles. It’s good for cooking or salads.

Bacon grease. I’m low carb

Ohhh… I do love bacon. One of the most delicious foods I’ve ever tasted was my Dad’s “bacon bread” at our campground breakfasts. To deal with the challenge of bacon grease, he’d sop it up in the frypan with bread and get it all toasty/browned. Not very healthy (I’ve never cooked it myself - we camp with microwave bacon, less grease) … but YUMMY!

Cabbage stir fried in bacon grease is very good.

I just returned the unopened Costco 1 liter bottle of EVOO. It’s just more oil than we can easily consume in a few months and oils like last us several YEARS.

Re: bacon fat, German Potato Salad. :yum:

@abasket - I hunted down Kodiak waffles at Safeway today, thinking of you.

^^ I hope you like them @colorado_mom - I personally feel they have more flavor than an Eggo!

This article popped up in my news feed about the use of soybean oil:
