Help Building a Realistic College List for A Wonderfully Average Junior [NC resident, 3.54 GPA, <$40k, civil engineering or business]

I didn’t read every reply but wanted to point out that if he is interested in civil engineering then it may be a good idea to start college in that major. ABET approved programs don’t have a lot of free electives, just a lot of required classes, so it may be difficult to start in another major or as undeclared and then change to engineering. At least not without spending 5 years in college. You can see a sample civil engineering program at https://www.mccormick.northwestern.edu/civil-environmental/documents/ugrd-civeng-path-2024-2025.pdf

Your son should meet with a civil engineer or two (perhaps a neighbor, friend-of-a-friend, etc) to find out more about the career and see if it sounds appealing to him.
