Help! D needs office-wear advice

My hair is difficult because it’s pretty straight at the top, and then at the bottom it does a lot of different things-- some pieces are poker straight, some pieces are curled into ringlets, some have loose waves, some are just kinky and crazy-- in the back it’s pretty curly all the way to the top. It makes it pretty much impossible to do anything with it without heat to make all the pieces do the same thing. If I use a blow dryer when it’s wet I can blow dry it fairly straight, but it won’t stay that way throughout the day so I need another step to finish it-- usually at that point I straighten to make it STAY straight, but it takes a lot of work to keep my hair moisturized anyway without straightening every day.

I actually had a sort of inverted bob for the last couple of years (think hayden pantierre’s, not victoria beckham’s-- not so severe), because I couldn’t do anything with my hair so I chopped it all off so I’d have less to work with so I could practice. But when my hair was short, it was so much work that I was missing classes in the morning. So I’m scared to cut it again!

Why don’t you make a salon appt. for a trim or a style and ask a hairdresser for suggestions??? Do you have someone reliable and knowledgeable to go to?

OP, my hair sounds like yours. I wore a bob and then shoulder length hair for years, but I always had to set it (5 big hot rollers or heated brush). I have it longer now, and often wear it with sides clipped back. I have MANY hair accessories, e.g. silver/turquoise, beaded, etc Other times I wear a loose chignon or french braid.

Living in the SE, with lots of humidity, hair has become wavier. When half-back, the waves near bottom are fine.

A friend of mine with rich wildly curly hair that I deeply envy swears by this book: [Amazon.com: Curly Girl (9780761123002): Lorraine Massey, Deborah Chiel: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Curly-Girl-Lorraine-Massey/dp/0761123008)

It is true that her hair has gone from “enh” to “wow!” since she read the book.
