Help! I need somebody! (But Yalies especially!

I applied regular decision, (something I’m becoming steadily more paranoid about. Rather, exponentially more paranoid, because steadily might be interpreted as a linear increase), to Yale University, and was notified by email that my application started being processed October 1. (I had posted the application sooner than the first, but I was slow in mailing my payment) I sent my score reports (SAT/SAT II’s), in just yesterday, and still need to send my AP score reports. (Of course, there is the self reporting bit I did in the application, but, you all knew that already)

What I’m very, (perhaps foolishly), excited about is an interview offer. A Yale Alumnus in my area recently called with offer of an interview. I’m excited because Yale is a school I am absolutely in love with, (again, I really do feel silly for not applying early), and because their website mentions that most of these interviews for Early Action students occur in November, and even later for Regular Decision. In addition, the interviewer has been incredibly kind to me by accommodating my schedule and location.

Unless I’m statistically blessed and a current Yale Admissions Officer decides to be decidedly nice to me, informing me of what implication this has if any to the status of my admission, I’m in the dark.

However, I was hoping there would be a few Yale students, (who had an ASC interview like this), that could tell me what went on in their interview, and what I can, (from their experience), expect.

I’m sorry this is so long winded and rambling, I’m a little giddy at the moment.

NOTE: I’m adding this only now (very giddy, yes?); the interview is scheduled for this month, October.

Here’s an entire thread on the subject of the Yale interview. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/yale-university/283957-rd-applicants-interview-advice.html

As an aside, are you aware that it’s not too late to switch your application from RD to SCEA? All you need to do is contact Admissions.

Is that something I would want to do after the interview? I’m really set on going to Yale, (assuming of course, that I get in), but there are other schools I’m strongly considering.

The advantage of SCEA at Yale is that, although you can’t apply anywhere else ED or EA, you can apply to as many schools as you want RD. (You can also file concurrent applications to schools, generally publics, that admit applicants on a rolling basis.) If you are admitted to Yale in December, it’s not binding: You’ll still have the opportunity to submit as many applications RD as you want, weigh all your acceptances/financial aid packages in April, and decide then where you’ll go.

You can probably switch your application from RD to SCEA any time before the SCEA deadline. Is there something you feel you’d learn during the interview that might change your thinking that Yale is your first choice? If so, wait until after the interview to make the switch (assuming the interview takes place before the SCEA deadline.)
