I didn’t know that UIUC has Co-op options, I will look into those before making a decision of graduating early
but from what I have understood, UIUC gies is the best option for me right?
Regarding the discussion above about STEM majors for OPT: for the major to count as STEM, it must be on DHS‘s list.
Is this to enable you to get a better job outside of the U.S.
… and the student should also verify with the university that it is a STEM designated major, rather than assuming it is because the name of the major is similar to one on the list.
A lot of the Gies major names are “X + Y” with data science thrown in there, but that doesn’t make it a data science major. So if OPT is a priority, the student needs to talk to Gies about which specific programs (if any) are STEM designated. Someone at Gies will surely know, because they do have some programs (at the masters level) that are advertised as STEM designated.
Since econometrics and quantitative economics is on the list, I am hoping it’s counted as stem. Plus I have already mailed the uni regarding it
My primary goal after mba is a us based firm, but I will look more into it when I reach the stage where I can do an MBA
Even with an MBA, getting a job in finance here is not going to be an easy task as an international student.
