Help Me Finish My Holiday Shopping - 2 women in their 80s

Jo Malone has hand creams and their scents are really nice, they also have body wash and body lotion. L’occitane is nice luxury hand cream. I get my elderly Mom an assortment of beautiful cards because she likes to send out cards but can’t always get out to buy them. That would be nice with some pretty stamps.

https://mcconnells.com/collections/fine-ice-creams This is also delicious ice cream. With shipping might be over your budget.

They both have had health issues but they are still very spunky, especially in spirit. Very sharp women.

Funny about the Tea Forte mug suggestion, @abasket, because I have a few saved in my Amazon cart currently.

@kiddie I just got a gift from one in the mail yesterday and it was from The Met!

Although I appreciate the suggestions of stamps, etc., they can still get around quite well - very mobile - and I’m not sure that would be appreciated by these women.

One issue with hand creams, etc. is the same with candles - knowing which scent they would prefer. For me, I’m citrusy/fresh all the way. Personally, I would not love floral scents so that makes it hard to know.

I know Harry & David is a classic but prefer something more unique.

Kiehls hand cream is unscented and is absolutely terrific!

My 82 year old MIL asked for a massage for Xmas…which could be more than $50 depending on geography. She is spunky and relatively fit, still exercises and does yoga. I was happy that she gave us an idea!

Jo Malone is very expensive!

Some people use hand creams, others do not. I don’t . My sister had a bunch of hand creams (Crabtree and Evelyn, for instance) that she kept getting from friends. She could not give them away. I also sent an email blast out to 3 of my friends about free good quality hand cream and nobody had any interest. Some of the hand soaps may be something that most people would use.

Candles are tricky too. It’s a fall back type hostess gift or Christmas gift but some people are just not into candles.

My best friend just turned 80. Spunky is a great word for her. She’d love a concert ticket to see Santana or Jackson Browne. And would LOVE a trip to the local ‘dispensary’ and $50 to spend there ?. YMMV.

Ticket passes to their local movie theater?

My MIL was a prolific letter writer. When I bought her notepaper and stamps, I’d try to get some kind of interesting sheets with history/story. The best find was DC Cherry Blossoms stamps/info (she used to live in DC). Here is an example from current options - https://store.usps.com/store/product/buy-stamps/post-office-murals-S_571104

Oh, she also liked the post card collections from museums (Monet etc) … we’d send those with postcard stamps.

I like soaps over hand creams because Not everybody likes handcream, it’s not something you’d share with guests and if you don’t like the scent it really lingers. But everybody uses soap, can put out for guests a nice product and any scent if not a welcome treat at least dissipates quickly.

I was thinking about getting these for my mom:

https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Emergency-JackonLux-Multi-Function-Equivalent/dp/B0797S6DTQ
Kind of nerdy, but these lightbulbs will work 3-5 hours after a black out. They last a while and are like regular lightbulbs. A lot safer than candles.

I like the l’occitane shea butter hand cream. It does smell but is not scented if that makes sense.

Now I buy the dupe at traders joes but the Shea butter hand cream is good.

L’Occitane also sells an almond shower oil that does not have an overpowering smell and is nice and moisturizing.

To each his own and obviously everyone has different likes and needs, but I hope that when I am in my 80’s that my family will be able to think of something different than stamps and note paper for my birthday! (by then probably there won’t even be stamps!)

@doschicos

The greenery sent by LLBean is not done by local florists. Done be Beans,

The wreath and centerpiece thing are both very nice.

My mil loves for us to buy her nice pajamas. I buy from Soma, they are always appreciated.

Love the massage idea!

Another idea. A barefoot dreams blanket is around $50 at Nordstrom Rack. I love their cardigans but they are over $50

L’Occitane

my in-laws are 88; we’ve had some hits and misses over the years.
we’ve purchased a 6-month Netflix subscription (hit); a 23 & me kit (miss); tickets to a local arboretum with an indoor calm cafe; books; music - oldies; and this year a trendy Kendra Scott necklace for my MIL.

my hope is that when I’m that age; and I have bad eyesight, I’ll still be able to listen to audio books and podcasts and know how to play them. I’m bookmarking this thread for ideas; thanks all.

LL Bean does make nice wreaths. I was gifted one a few years back, after I had already bought a wreath for my door. I’m going to save that idea for the future so I can send out earlier than this close to Christmas.

The reviews for the centerpieces are less stellar than the wreath reviews. Someone posted a photo of one that was sent and I’d be disappointed if that is what someone received from me.
