Help! (Merit Aid)

To anyone interested for future reference - I’ve been accepted to every school that I’ve applied to so far!

In order: Pitt - Honors (25k/year),
Fordham (half tuition ~40k/year),
UChicago (20k/year, 5k/2 summers),
UNC,
UVA,
UMD - Honors,
Vanderbilt (potential Chancellor invite)

I was a semifinalist for the Jefferson Scholar, but ultimately was not selected to attend the weekend (MD is rough!), and I was not accepted into the Robertson Scholars program.

Congrats! You have some great opportunities. How do you know results of the Roberston? Have they released those already?

The total cost of attendance at Fordham is about $77,000 a year. Tuition alone is about $54,000. If you got a $40,000 a year scholarship at Fordham, it’s way more than 1/2 tuition. It’s more like 1/2 of the total cost of attendance.

Congrats!

Is the U of C figure what you will have to pay or the grant?

@midofnowhere

What are the annual net costs at each of these colleges? Really, your $$ aid isn’t as important as the annual net cost for you…so what is that?

How did you get merit aid from UChicago?

@Yorktown I guess UChicago’s admissions office found my application compelling.

They upped my merit aid to 25k/year and I am a recipient of the President’s Scholar as of 2/12, but I think that’s all I’m getting.

To break it down, I received 20k as a University Scholar and 5k from the Trott Foundation as part of their Rural Leaders program.

Hope that helps!

What matters are the net costs and how much you can pay.

So what are the net costs of each school (tuition+r&b) and how much can you pay?

Just as a point of clarification, the reason I’m posting here is to let prospective students know about where my stats/ecs/etc. end up taking me. Not necessarily to gain any more insight as to what I can/can’t afford, because I know my (and my family’s) limits, and I’m fine with it!

I’d be extremely fortunate to attend any of these schools, including those on the lower end.

Did you apply to any MD schools? The grants are nice, but paying for an OOS school on a $15k/year budget may be difficult.

“” Upper Class (parents can afford 15-20k a year max)””

So which of your accepted schools meet that budget?

Did you file a FAFSA Application?
