I’m thinking you’re already familiar, but for schools where SATs/ACTs are not required at all, go to http://www.fairtest.org. However, her SATs are good already for all but the uber-selectives.

As to legacy boost, I think it varies a lot from school to school. And someone here may have specific insight re Amherst. Sometimes the school itself will give you an idea of what they do to boost a legacy’s chances; sometimes (most times?) they just repeat the old "we look at every application holistically blah blah ;).

My own opinion re whether school where the SAT profile is higherwould be “too tough”, based on my S’ experience (he, too was a 1300’s SAT kid, not at 1400+), is that what you should look to is the quality of her hs preparation. If the preparation is good, if kids from that school are thriving in the most selective schools (HYPSM, AWS…) and if she held her own in comparison with such kids in hs, then she will be fine. My S’ hs grades outstripped his SATs in a challenging hs with a challenging schedule. They have turned out to be a good predictor of his college performance.
