it matters not who is more intellectual… and dont get overly defesive and critcal

I honsestly don’t see why it matters which school is more intellectual. I always thought that they were about the same in intellectualism. Rice is a far superior school for other reasons. Mainly in its social atmosphere and the way its residential college system is set up. Also Rice gives better financial aid.

“Rice is a far superior school for other reasons…mainly in its social atmosphere”

This is the most hilarious thing I have ever read. Vanderbilt is a ranked party school and completely dominates Rice socially. Unless your idea of a good time is playing Risk, having Magic the Gathering tournaments, or hosting Lord of the Rings Marathons this is completely false. Vanderbilt parties are nationally recognized by Playboy and they are renowned for having some of the hottest girls in the country. SEC > CUSA

“the way its residential college system is set up”

Vanderbilt has nearly completed its residential college system.

“Also Rice gives better financial aid.”

Not true, both schools are known for being great with aid. Regardless, this has nothing to do with academic quality.

A good social atmosphere is not one that necessarily translates into a good party one.

A good social atmosphere is not necessarily hooking up with ugly Rice girls.

This, ladies and gentlemen, speaks for itself…

I wonder if this is how all Vandies behave.

I’d rather hang out with pastel polo prep-schoolers over emo, hipster psuedo-intellectuals any day of the week. If you want to sip on cappuccino at Borders and read Nietzsche/Foucault all day or pretend to analyze postmoderism thats great. But some people will prefer a school with attractive kids who care about their academics but also like to have a good time. There is a tradition to take dates to football games and the school has charm. In the real world, these social skills pay off and there are few schools that are as gregarious and social as Vanderbilt - its culture is unique. If you don’t like it, great, don’t apply.

Nietzsche has nothing to do with postmodernism.

Given your shoddy generalizations, I doubt you care about academics.

Oh… I am sure this ‘culture’ can easily be found the local state school.

Never have, never will.

“Nietzsche has nothing to do with postmodernism.”

Yeah, no sh**. You clearly missed the big ‘OR’. Your reading comprehension skills are embarassing. I hope you are not taking the LSAT.

“Given your shoddy generalizations, I doubt you care about academics.”

I turned down several Ivies and I will be at a T-14 law school. You don’t know me.

“this ‘culture’ can easily be found the local state school.”

High culture at state schools? Don’t think so buddy

“Never have, never will.”

It’s easy to reject something when it reject you first.

The ‘or’ functor in logic is never symbolized by a slash; in fact, it is used more for identity schema.

Wooo… a top 14 law school and some Ivys. That must mean you care about academics!!!

Ah yes… the superficiality of material culture adds much to the drunken episiotomies.

…they never rejected me… since I never applied.

If someone likes to have fun on weekends, why does this mean “they do not care about academics”? They are not mutually exclusive.

“the superficiality of material culture adds much to the drunken episiotomies”

What’s wrong with material culture? For a school you dislike you spend an awful amount of time talking about it.

I have had enough of your incessant bickering. I hope you find some of it at your “T-14 law school.”

Hahahahaha.

Thank you for the warm regards. Enjoy your non-existant social life.

Actually I was not even thinking of parties when I was talking about the social atmosphere. I was refering to the lack of the Greek system at Rice. Personally I have heard that if you don’t join at Vanderbilt that you will have almost no social life. I have a lot better things to do with my life than getting hazed into a stupid and pointless fraternity. Also I read somewhere that Rice has parties that places it very high on the Playboy list. Higher than Vanderbilt. So obviously you have no clue what you are talking about.

First, that party is NOD, and second, it being in the top 10 is a rumor.

Yeah I read it in some college book. Seemed like sort of a thing to put in there but oh well. I also saw it in a few other places though. Really have no idea.

“Seemed like sort of a thing to put in there but oh well. I also saw it in a few other places though. Really have no idea.”

No worries. Nobody is going to be taking notes from Alaska on how to party. Ice Fishing and Eskimos. No Thank You.

“if you don’t join at Vanderbilt that you will have almost no social life.”

This statement is beyond stupid. If you go greek, will you have a good time? Yes. If you don’t go greek, will you have an equally good time? Yes. Does the Greek system play a significant role in the lives of numerous people on campus? Absolutely. Does it dominate campus life? Absolutely not.

Considering Vanderbilt being listed as a top 25 party school by Playboy was actually printed and your information about Rice being in the top 10 isn’t, learn your facts.

Ok, this discussion is getting a little ridiculous. Rice is a GREAT school. Vanderbilt is a GREAT school. Heck, I’ll even randomly mention that Georgetown is a GREAT school. Every school has its differences and strenghts; please learn to respect other schools.

This whole rant was started because someone said Rice had “superior” intellectualism when it would have been better to state that intellectualism is more “prevalent” on Rice’s campus. To use superior would include one’s personal opinion and imply that it is a positive attribute.

We all go to wonderful schools. Why bicker?

You have got to be kidding about that Alaska statement? Hahahahaha you have no idea or clue about partying until you have been in Alaska. Most people here starty partying very hard in early high school and it just keeps on going right on through college. We lead the nation in liquor consumption, alcohol abuse, drunk driving, and for some reason ice cream consumption.

Also I did research online and Playboy doesn’t even rank best parties. That is just a myth. It did rank the top ten party schools and neither Rice nor Vanderbilt placed.

And college2332 if you have such a great social life why do you spend sooooooooo much time on a site mainly inhabited by high school seniors??

Also people in Alaska DO NOT ice fish. That would be the midwest region. At least try to get your geography straight.
