Situations like this underscore the power of internet forums. All the advice given you was good: let him decide, a college degree is good to have, he will appreciate the college dorm experience. They seemed incompatible, but the power of lots of minds working on a problem is awesome!!

Good luck to your son. Good for you for reaching out to find the best option.

Wow, I wish we could find a college/major that can state “job placement is 100%” for my kids. Sadly, neither one wants to go into the auto tech program at Weber State.

D wants to apply to colleges where she will get an environmental background to help save the world.
S is more of a philosophy/economics/politics guy. He reads everything and is also interested in science and math. He is enjoying a liberal arts major, but has no idea what to go into after college.

Any ideas for practical programs? Undergrad environmental for D.
S is interested in so many things, still an enigma as to what his field will be.

Karen- have I got a SUNY for you- check out SUNY- Environmental Science and Forestry- [SUNY-ESF, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry](http://www.esf.edu)
It’s one of the more quirky suny programs. It’s housed at Syracuse U. Kids can live in syracuse dorms, take classes at syracuse but they pay SUNY tuition for ESF. and our OOS tuition is very reasonable- under $12,000. ESF is not for everyone as it is a pretty focused school, but as your kid is interested in environmental studies, you should check it out.
