Hijacking this thread to ask a somewhat related question–has anyone used a steam cleaner for hardwood floors and does anyone have a recommendation. I decided to try this method of cleaning and want to purchase a steam clearner. I’ve found that the price range varies greatly. I can get a models for under $100 or for as much as $1K. Does anyone have one and would you recommend it?

I have a nice steam cleaner. Love it for cleaning the oven. Worthless for cleaning wood floors. This is the one I have: [Amazon.com: Wagner 905 1,500-Watt On-Demand Power Steamer and Cleaner: Home & Garden](http://www.amazon.com/Wagner-500-Watt-Demand-Steamer-Cleaner/dp/B000I618NY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1282070468&sr=8-2)

When cleaning wood floors, I found it raised the grain, which made them get dirty much faster. I like to use a dilute solution of wood floor cleaner on an old towel and just wipe the floors (which I do by moving the towel around with my feet, something my kids called “towel dancing the floor”). I do it several times a week, haven’t had a problem.

Bona floor cleaner solution sprayed from a spray bottle and wiped with a mop equipped with a microfiber pad - a quick, efficient, non-damaging way of cleaning hardwoods.

A second vote for Bona floor cleaner and microfiber mop head…

Steam+wood strikes me as a terrible idea.

Our neighbors ruined their wood floors with a steam cleaner. Avoid.

On the original topic: here’s another vote for Dyson Animal. It picks up both hair and dander really effectively.

We use the Bona as well… works great
