Help w/ Freshman year schedule?

° Don’t try to transfer. Med schools DO NOT care about your undergrad’s ranking. They want you to be top of your class, regardless of where you attend. There is absolutely NO boost to coming from a top school. (There’s a kid on this very forum now trying to warn premeds not to do this, as this is what he did and in one semester, his GPA was no longer med-school worthy. Had he stayed put, he would have been a good contender for med school, but now he’s at a top school and won’t be going to med school. Is that trade off worth it to you?)
° Are you in the Honors College? If so, taking 112H at IU is a good idea. If not, Berndton is a good prof to have for 112L.
° You’re supposed to take M211. If you’re doing well in Precalculus Honors, you should be okay (IU has a special section for students who took Calc AB, so there should not be as many retakers as elsewhere.)
° Check with the Foreign language department’s page or the catalog for the scores required on SAT Foreign Language or AP tests to get the requirement waived. See whether you get “back credit” or not.
° Ask IU if you could take a couple classes at Ivy Tech before Fall. Verify with them that you can (at some schools, doing this would jeopoardize your freshman status. I think it’s okay at IU but better check as the consequences are enormous.) In that case, taking M211 or BioL111 over the summer would be a good move, keeping Bio 112, Chem 117, Psych or Soc, and Math 211 or Stats - that should be a manageable schedule for your first semester.
