Our trip is next weekend, I am sitting at the computer now trying to translate all these great trip tips onto the maps I am holding in my hand.

Weather dot com says next Sat will be lovely but Sun may have rain.

OP here with update. Sitting in Hartford airport waiting to head back home. Lovely weekend spent with siblings and my college D celebrating my nieces wedding. Perfect fall weekend. Slight bit of rain on Saturday, but most wedding photos were able to be taken outdoors as planned. The Aqua Turf Club was absolutely the most breathtakingly beautiful landscape. The fall leaves were perfectly colored as the backdrop, and the plants and flowers added great color too. Sunday drive from southington (had to retrain my brain to pronounce this towns name correctly) to Litchfield. Stopped for walk there and lunch at Ollie’s pizza. Then D navigated us on around through several towns and we made our way back to the airport. Did not push on to the covered bridge, my other passengers didn’t want to take time for that. Very relaxed drive, windy day but sunny. Thanks to all who helped me with details.

Glad you had a good time! Saturday wasn’t as nice as I had hoped but today was beautiful (if a little chilly). I can imagine your ride having lots of great photo ops! Safe travels home…

Terrific! Ollie’s is perfectly fine. Litchfield is a cute little perfect New England town. I took my sisters there last weekend!

Glad the drive was pretty. I think this is our last leaf peeping weekend for this year.

BTW…what did you end up having for lunch yesterday before the wedding??

Aqua Turf is a lovely wedding venue, and they have weddings down!!

Thanks to OP for starting this thread and several CCers for sharing their knowledge about CT. I learned something new about CT because of this thread.

Last time I was at the Bradley International Airport, it appears the airport became much better. I think the BDL airport is just about the right size, unlike the airports at most large cities.

DS was almost sent to Waterbury for his training last year and we were excited that he could see more of CT. (He was unfortunately sent to a larger, not so pretty city, Bridgeport, in the end.) Now that he has a car, I think he would take advantage of it to see more of CT. I heard he had visited a place called Mystic seaport which is slightly to the east of New London.

I notice the weather in CT is much cooler than where I live at (CA) now. Maybe the winter season will be around the corner.

Glad you had a wonderful weekend and got to see some fall foliage, too!

“Maybe the winter season will be around the corner.”

Yesterday my dogwood trees where full of beautiful red colored leaves and this morning when I looked out the window they are practically bare.

My big maple in the front and my Chinese Elm never start changing color until mid-November and we are always still raking leaves in December.

I love my trees but they cause a lot of work in the fall. This is our last year paying tuition
so next fall I am definitely hiring fall clean-up crew.

“I heard he had visited a place called Mystic seaport…”

Mystic is lovely.

I passed along my suggestions for lunch options, my BIL did his own research and ended up selecting deli food for lunch. I honestly don’t know which place he chose. They were smart and bought drinks, chips and cookies in bulk, probably at Costco?? and only got the sandwiches/salads on Saturday. They had a great system set up in their hotel room, and we each dropped by and picked up our lunch to eat on our own.

The wedding and reception went smoothly, enjoyed getting to know groom and his extended family, and am only slightly jealous that the happy couple is flying out to New Zealand today on their 3 week honeymoon!

I’m glad you had a drive to Litchfield! It really is a charming town. We took several foliage drives ourselves this weekend.

It was a gorgeous weekend out … probably the best weekend of the fall for color and weather. Glad you enjoyed our beautiful state.
