@MYOS1634 She is set with Ohio University as her state safety school as it has a marine sequence for Biology.
Update: DD now has a 1440 SAT and has narrowed her colleges down to those with a marine bio major. Her current application list consists of UNC Wilmington, Eckerd, University of Tampa and a state school safety. I would like to find a couple high match or reach schools but she does not think she would like Miami and Duke is way out of reach. Any ideas?
Here is one list of top 10 marine science schools, several of these you have spoken of: Top 10 Best Marine Biology Colleges in the USA | BioExplorer.Net
Things that my daughter considered when looking at schools offering marine bio: does the school also offer a degree or offer a track in marine geo, bio and geophysics. Is it located on the water, what are the lab facilities like, are there research opportunities and internships as early as freshman year, can a student publish or present at conferences, are there NOAA Hollings scholars in the program, is there an honors program, what are the opportunities to study abroad in the field, are there freshman research grants, what is the success rate of students continuing on for graduate degrees.
Congrats on the SAT score!
My D goes to U Miami studying business but has several friends studying marine biology and love it. Amazing program from what I understand and the proximity to water to do actual study can’t be beat. Campus is so pretty, lots of new building going on and their merit $ is well known. At the end, she picked Miami over a school that had been top of her list for 1 1/2 years…and they ended up giving her way more $ than we thought.
@ECmotherx2, where would I find data on the grad degrees?
@babysweetpea, thanks for the insight on UM. I did NPC and projected merit still left us paying $50k. Looking for 40k max.
The following is some info regarding the marine science dept at Eckerd. I would suggest a call to the department to obtain specific numbers. One of the statements is that half of their graduates go directly into grad school. I don’t know how many apply and are accepted. Some work and others change disciplines.
