HGTV Tiny Houses - how tiny could you live?

Now, that’s brilliant!!

Just caught the tiny house show. $108K for 500 sq. feet.

Ah, but it’s CUTE

I liked it, too. It is a small house I might be able to actually live in opposed to a lot of the others. Certain expenses like appliances are going to cost the same regardless of house size so that drives the cost per sf up but think of the savings in heating, electricity, etc.

Which show are you watching? I see “Tiny house builders” tiny house hunters" “tiny house, living large” etc. I would like to see the 500sq ft house and this episode, but will have to find it online. Can someone link me the show?

I guess after 20 years of bachelorhood, he’s gotten things the way he wants them. He seems quite ingenious and pretty neat. I guess you have to be when space is at such a premium.

and the show is called??? Can you tell me the name of the series? Thanks!

This is the one I’ve been referencing:

There are a few on hgtv. Set up like house hunters but they’re doing tiny places.

I don’t get the appeal on any level. Many are essentially trailer homes.

@anxiousmom, yes, it’s Tiny House Hunters.

We watch all that, the Tiny house hunting, the building (TH Nation) and hgtv. partner hates it. Is scared I want to "go tiny)!

In reality, I want my own playhouse! I could go down to 1200 I suppose. Have done that before. But having raised 2 teenaged boys on 1800 sq ft, I’d love a McMansion!!!

I joke with DH we’re going to get two tiny houses side by side, and each have our own and meet in the middle

I don’t mind tiny house in theory as long as I have large land surrounding it. I can cook outdoor most days which is what I do here in California, so I don’t feel hem in. I hope tiny house is built with a see through roof, I forgot whats the English word for it, so I can watch the stars at night. Almost camping but not quite.

^^^Skylights.

On the show I was watching last night, the couple wanted to put a king size bed in their bedroom! Jeez! Is that tiny living???

^i saw that one! They endd up getting a very mobile homish home. plus, not too bright…put the king in the loft and use the bedroom for the office since they both work from home! that way you can stand up during the day!

Well, we are still happy with our full-size bed and have never gotten a larger bed in our decades of marriage. We prefer to have more space to be able to walk around in our small master bedroom.

I did some research on the tiny house fad, and found a blog by someone whose tiny house was stolen! She said she didn’t want to live worrying about whether or not her house would be there when she came home from work. That was something I hadn’t thought of.

But I didn’t see any comments along the line of “we just got tired of it.”

I couldn’t take it for a weekend, let alone years.

Is tiny house a fad? What’s wrong with an RV? I know one guy at work retired last year and he and his wife lived in an RV when he was working because he couldn’t afford to buy a place near work.
I thought about buying a boat and live in a boat during work and then sail back on the weekend. It would surely beat the traffic on the 405.

@FlyMeToTheMoon, I have often wondered about the safety of the tiny homes. I just don’t think I would feel secure in most of the ones I see, either from an intruder, fire, or the elements. I mean, what happens in a flood or a tornado?
