Answer: NO, unless you want to go to hell. Have fun there!

And plus, everyone’s doing it:

The New R

I would say that I didn’t mention it cuz I was being humble? Or felt the need to fit in with my peers? Keepin it real?

yeah, like you’ve never lied

This wouldn’t be something that you “didn’t mention.” This would be something you knowingly fabricated. I doubt an employer is going to think you lied because you’re humble and are worried about fitting in; you wouldn’t have to tell the people you work with that you go to UVA. Even if they believe you, they’ll certainly question your judgment for lying about something that affects your availability just two months into working there.

Your opinion hasn’t changed even though everyone in this thread is advising against your plan, so I’m assuming you’re going to do it regardless of what people tell you. Just don’t be surprised come fall when you get caught in the fall and get fired.

I have workstudy during the fall, so plan B is to withdraw and keep good references.

what do you mean “this economy”?

didn’t you start a thread before about how there were no problems with the economy because you could find a job?

Yes, but I don’t have enough hours and I’m way too idle.

ahahahahaha

You’re really lucky to have at least one job. I am so mad I didn’t get a job this summer but most of my friends did through connections and networking.

I don’t feel lucky.

I know a very close friend my year who’s working 40 hours / wk on 17.50 / hr pay at MedImmune. I’m soooo jealous.

What/where is your friend working?

MedImmune internship.

Technically she didn’t even qualify as she was only a first year when she applied but she’s genius like that.

Well she is a genius, so that’s the exception case.

Okay, yay an open job position that I will have to take the Unicru test for. I love these things now because now I know how to pass them – if they weren’t just for on-call labor pools I always got callbacks, but I kept being turned away come the interview because they didn’t want to take a college student.

So I am almost determined to leave that obligation out. Or maybe, represent myself as a part-time student? How do I show I haven’t been a bum in the past year? What do I cover up my past year of college with? Any ideas?

Are you back home for the summer and trying to find work? Or still in Charlottesville?

If you’re at home, part-time student at UVA vs full-time at UVA isn’t going to mean squat. You’ll still be leaving in August to go back to school.

If you’re in Charlottesville, why not try to get a job that you can continue through the school year so you don’t have to worry about this kind of thing?

When it comes time to go back to school and you say “oh, btw, I’m leaving for school soon” and they had no idea that you were still in school, they’re probably gonna be pretty mad about it. I have friends in the same boat as you (no job/not enough hours) and I ask them if they’re looking. Most have realized that if they apply to places now, they probably won’t get hired until about early July, and then only have a month which most places won’t want. The others say “well I started applying in May…” when they’ve known since December that they’d need a summer job. Sorry, it’s not that hard to plan ahead IMO.

I only made the decision in April to stay in Charlottesville. I’m mainly staying here because of research but I need the job to sustain the living expenses. (Otherwise, there’d be less pressure to find a job cuz I’d be living with my mother.)

I wouldn’t have to say that I was in school – maybe I could say that I got into school. The financial aid worked out, act really glad that I got the privilege of being admitted to community college!! Or something.

i wouldn’t lie. i’d rather be broke (like I am) than be a liar.

I can’t really afford to be broke.

why don’t you train to be a lifeguard, they get paid like $15/hr, even more at country clubs…and basically you get to sit around at a pool and flirt with girls and occasionally save a toddler from falling into 4 ft of water…

you live in Maine so there’s like lots of water around.
