High Heels for Women Our Age

Tell that to the millions of men who go ga-ga over swimsuit models.

Wanna see an interesting example of a model using the high heels trick in bare feet? Check out Cindy Crawford on the latest Town and Country magazine cover. She is sitting on steps, has absolutely no need to be on her toes, yet has positioned her feet in such a way that it is as if she is wearing a super high pair of Manolos.

I don’t recall Sports Illustrated-style swimsuit models ever wearing high heels with their suits. Swim suits + heels is something I associate with beauty pageants, which is a rather different social phenomenon.

When I need shoes with a heel, I raid my daughter’s closet. I do not own shoes with heels…she does. Thank goodness we wear the same size shoe,

Oh…I do have a couple of pairs of dress sandals for summer weddings with about a 2 inch heel…but I don’t think that counts.

I am 5’ 2 and have always worn heels; perhaps if I were 5’8 or even 5’6 I might not…who knows, but I don’t feel dressed up if I wear flats. I prefer 2-3" heels but will do 4" if dining out and thus sitting for most of the time…

I agree natmicstef. I’m 5’7" , but I still wear heels when I dress to go out to dinner or for an evening function. I’m not walking miles in them. Even during the day, if I want to look my best, I need a high heel. They create a long, lean line that is unachievable in a flat shoe. I look like I’m standing in a hole in flats. My dressy pants are hemmed so that I have to wear a heel. I have a few jeans hemmed for flats and others hemmed for heels (kind of a pain).

At home, I live in Dansko clogs, so my feet are in pretty good shape by the time I slip on the heels.

My feminist side just argues that I would rather be remembered for my cutting wit and nice smile. There is something wrong with our society where being short is seen as such a negative that we are willing to wear shoes that are uncomfortable to walk in. I won’t argue that high heels make one look better, but better how - longer and leaner? Why is longer and leaner better?? At 5’1" and 110 pounds, I’m never going to be long and lean and I don’t really think that’s a bad thing.

I’m just lazy. If I wear heels I don’t need to hem my pants. (Danskos usually work too.)

Mafool - I use masking tape to hem those pants :)

Don’t tell my mom

I’m a Stitch-witchery fan myself. I CAN do a blind hem on the machine, as well as hem by hand. I’m lazy.

Masking tape works just fine in a pinch…to hem anything. Iron it on.

I think it’s generally accepted that “long and lean” is a good thing, otherwise Gisele wouldn’t make about $20 million a year.

I am a long & lean fan … but I am long & relatively lean. My good friend is a self-described Weeble. She has never worn a pair of heels in her life. She is happy with herself, and she is an awesome woman. I like a certain look, she likes another. Different strokes for different folks! :)

What’s wrong with a feminist, with cutting wit, and nice smile who also wears sexy high heels? :D

^ I am a feminist with a nice smile and I like heels. Now if only I could buy that cutting wit.

Since when feminism was all about us, ladies, dressing like the men? I thought is was all about equal rights regardless of what we, females, wear.

It’s not about dressing like men, it’s being as comfortable as men. They get to look sexy to us with all of their clothes on and comfy shoes whereas women look sexy when they are wearing clothes that prevent movement.

You all do know you can hem with a stapler in a pinch, right? (Just put the smooth side on the INSIDE.)

Went to a party around the holidays…and the request was that EVERYONE not wear shoes. OK with me since I usually wear flats. But my short friends who usually wear high heels seemed really short!

I love my cowboy boots , they have about a 2" heel.
I also like my art company boots from Spain which are flat & my converse.
However when I wear shortish skirts I wear heels, Born wedge sandals.
I refuse to work anyplace that requires nylons & heels. It might be fun to play a grown up ever once in a while, but life is too short to do that every day.

kathie, I can find plenty of options to be comfy in heels, however, I have yet to find a necktie that my H will find “comfy” I do think ties are sexy :D

ek, I think it will be hard to find a place that requires heels and nylons here, in Seattle! I bet even the downtown law firms do not have such draconian policies, LOL! When it comes to tights and heels, I’m like a cat - I will wear them as I please, not when someone tells me to!
