High School Class of 2014

I have 8 or 9, now that my grandfather is making me apply to Yale for him. (I’m doing it for teh lulz.)

lol @ you guys. I’m applying to around 20, including Canadian schools.

@lldm, okay I’ll check it out. I’m also an introvert type and its kind of annoying when people who haven’t done all that much get more recognition just cuz they’re…loud.

I’m applying to 13 schools. I really can’t minimize this list anymore. I guess as long as I work on most of the supplements now, I’ll have minimal stress.

Also does anyone know anything about Northwestern’s essay question?

^I think it’s just “Why Northwestern?” but don’t quote me on that. Also, I’m taking the ACT in October instead of September. There are too many holidays in September so it’s just too hectic. And the only school I’m applying to early/priority is UMD but I don’t care if they see my ACT scores or not.

I have 16 schools. Thank God for WashU. When I saw they had no supplements, I was ecstatic.

WashU is the best!^

To the person who asked about Stanford’s early action plan:
You can apply to public and international universities. However, you can’t apply to ANY college’s BINDING early program. You also can’t apply to any other PRIVATE college’s early action or early decision.

So if you’re applying to Stanford SCEA, you can apply to UNC Chapel Hill and Seoul University but you can’t apply to MIT, even if their early action program is nonbinding

@ecouter:

Because the author is a self-described introvert, she has an overt bias toward other introverts and discusses how it’s sometimes better to have introvert leaders (for example, when leading s bunch of extroverts, that way there’s someone who can parse the good ideas from the bad), and frequently praises the heroic actions and accomplishments of other introverts (think Rosa Parks, Gates, Wozniak). I’m still not finished with it, but apparently the latter part of the book talks about how introverts can harness their … Introvertiness … in order to shine in a world run on high energy and gregariousness.

One experiment though, was really cool: introverts and extroverts were given some music and headsets and told to adjust the volume to whatever they felt was comfortable (I’s did around 50 dB, e’s around 70), and then told to do some problem-solving task or something. Both groups performed equally well. When they switched dB levels, however, they both did measurably worse, with the introverts doing the worst because they were so over-stimulated (which I guess actually is worse than being under-stimulated).

I wanted to apply to WashU, but it seems kinda shady lol and has really erratic admission results, even for a top school.

WashU, unlike other top schools, weighs the applicant’s interest in the school into the account more heavily than other places do. That’s why you hear about people who get into HYPSM but get rejected or waitlisted at WashU from time to time.

How do you show interest to a school besides visiting, and interviewing? What are you supposed to do?

Sign up for a school’s mailing list if they have one.

If they have a “Why Our College?” essay, then use that to show that you are interested in going. Do your research and show that you know enough about the college and have enough things in common with it so they know you aren’t just applying for the name or the location alone.

Unfortunately Wash U doesn’t have any specific essays to show interest. Wash U is coming to my school in October so I’m going to use that visit to show interest.

^That’s what I was talking about too. I visited there in June, but they don’t even ask if you’ve visited. Does it just show up? They’re my top choice right now, but I’m not applying ED, because I need choices.

Try contacting the admissions office. Maybe that will earn you brownie points.

The problem is what to say. I could ask them a meaningless Q, but I’m not sure.

You could ask them how to show interest and how they will know you showed interest.

Hey guys. Just got my schedule today and I’m alright, except for one thing…
1: Late Arrival (I wanted two periods but oh well)
2: AP Micro/Macro (Check)
3: AP Gov (Check)
4: AP Lit (Didn’t get the fun teacher but got the easy A teacher)
5: AP Calc AB (Check)
6: AP Environmental Science (Check)
7: “Engaged Citizenship Service Learning?” (What is this??? I e-mailed my counselor and requested either early release or a research period so I could do Calc homework…)

I had a really bad feeling my schedule got messed up but my counselor is a saint thank god

Vanilla! Can’t you see I’m trying to spam here!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

JK, also, what is Late Arrival? Like a free period?

Otherwise, cool schedule! Wish my school had AP Gov though…
