High School Class of 2015

@mitobs finally someone else who likes the 49ers. I feel like everyone I know that likes a California team likes the raiders

@kyp: Wow! I’m sure you’ll be getting a better education than us public hs people! (blegh…;))

@CE: Oh, I hate the Bears :stuck_out_tongue: PACKERS/BRONCOS FTW!

Hello. :D

I’m a sophomore (obviously) at an IB school. Next year I plan on taking an IB class or two.

I recently received my PSAT results back. I got a combined score of 179, with 59 in reading, 62 in math, and 58 in writing.

^Hi

@Elven… WHAT?! NO.

@apup: Welcome and congrats on your PSAT results!! See, you’re already higher than the juniors’ national average. :wink:
Are you going to do the certificate program, or the full diploma? I think the full diploma looks way better to colleges, unless of course you’re taking tons of APs/dual credit.

@CE: YES. >:P

Elven - Thanks! And I’m leaning towards the full diploma.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

ok

^Dang. ;)

@apup: I’m going to do the full diploma-we should try to survive it together! From what I’ve heard, junior year is torture in the DP program…

Hey guys, so I need to actually get started on this project that’s due on Monday…yeah. I’ve procrastinated on it this entire break. :smiley: See you guys tomorrow!

Elven - Good! Yes, we should. I totally expect it to be hard… challenge accepted! :slight_smile: & Goodnight :)

I have to leave for school for my first exam in exactly 24 hours. I should probably start revising.

Here’s another article from the BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-20857972</a> talking about why British people both mock and revere Americans.

“But in fact the British conception of America remains hopelessly confused. Love and hate are intimately co-mingled, and there is no single cultural artefact or presidential utterance that doesn’t set off a dissonant chain reaction in the heart and mind of the average Briton, whatever his or her political standpoint.”

I know I’m behind, but here’s my reasoning for why AP is stupid:

The class is unnecessary–you can just take an Honors and get the GPA boost, then study a bit for the test in May.

It puts students under totally unnecessary pressure for no reason–they are told that APs are just the gods of education and that if they take all APs, they’ll get into any college.

It encourages the misconception that just taking the class gets you college credit, which is untrue. You have to pass the test, usually with a 4 or a 5 to qualify for the credit.

And I also hate supporting College Board, because it is a greedy company with no real interest in helping students.

Ad on another note: my school has no midterms or finals, as well as no due dates.

^ You have no exams at all then??? 100% of my grade for over half my subjects is purely based on one exam.

17 hours until exams, no revision done yet.

Ah, January exams. I take it you’re in England? I’m in Scotland and I’ve got just under 4 months until my first formal exams. It’s good to know I’m not the only one with a tendency to completely forget about revision though.

At my school, .5 extra for Honors, 1 point for AP…I’ll take the AP

Pretty much anyone can take Honors, you have to be selected for AP (plus, at my school, we only have Honors classes for Math and Science, not History and English). Being selected means you’re guaranteed to be in a class with intelligent people who care about learning.

No one ever told me that I can get into any Ivy just for taking an AP class.

Gets me prepared for college, I’m not going to community college where the academics aren’t challenging, I plan on going to a decent school and this is prepping me. Not to mention that all the AP teachers at my school are excellent and actually prepare kids for college and teach some good old fashioned research and writing–two very important things helping students do well in college.

Now you’re just being silly. How do they “encourage” this??? Anyone who reads anything about AP knows that it explicitly states “students can potentially earn college credit if they pass the class and do well on the AP exam”, or something to that effect.

Besides, at least for me, potential college credit is a bonus, that is NOT the reason why I choose to take AP classes.

Do you even want me to say how dumb this “reason” is? OK, have fun getting into college by boycotting the SAT/ACT’s.

Aight, I think I argued that pretty well.

@almostanonymous yep, GCSE mocks :frowning: And the issue wasn’t forgetting, more just not doing it…

@UKgirl23 “Forget” always sounds nicer. If it helps, I had prelims (similar to mocks) in November, and they were a lot easier than I thought they’d be. Me and a few other people where finished Biology and Chemistry with an hour to spare. I’d suggest just looking through any revision books and making a note of anything you don’t know, then spending some time trying to learn that. For me, it seems to work better (and be a lot less stressful) than the weeks of revision some people seem to like.

What subjects are you taking, by the way?

^oooooh a Scottish person! Love your guys’s accents; my friends always laugh when I try to talk like the Scots and Irish folks.

@CE527M Yup, magical Scottish unicorn* here. Lowlander though, so (according to an English friend) I constantly sound as though I’m trying to insult people.

*It’s our national animal…

:D :smiley: :smiley: :smiley: :smiley:

Top o the marnin’ to ya! (or is that Irish…?) People tell me my “Irish” accent actually sounds Scottish. No offense, but it seems pretty similar, though I bet there’s a distinct difference I can’t really tell. I mean, I can tell a little difference, but not really. It would be like you trying to distinguish the different American accents (Midwest, Southern, etc.)
