Actually, anyone willing to advise me real quick? So basically took the SAT in November got a 2020. SO last chance to take the old SAT is in January (dec is too close) or I can take the ACT in either February or April or June. Immediately, I cross out June bc I want that chance to retake if I need it. Also, immediately know I don’t want to take the new SAT for sure.
So basically old SAT in January or ACT in February/April. If I take the old SAT in january, I have to take the ACT in April if needed (which imo is too close to AP season). If I just simply take the ACT in february, then I will have to forgo my last chance to take the old SAT in January.
Now, for the SAT I will only be pleased with a 2300+ bc of the colleges I am applying to. I know that if I prep mad hard until January, I possibly can pull off a 2300. I can do it for sure. However, that’s the thing. I don’t want to prep for the old SAT anymore tbh; I hate memorizing vocabulary and the CR is just ugh. So what I want to do is just take the ACT in february, prep extremely hard and dedicate myself and be done with it with a 36, which I am sure I can do. I just need to adjust my timing really.
However, everyone I know is calling me crazy for throwing out my last chance to take the old SAT and say I shouldn’t take the ACT now… What do you guys think? Either way, I know I am capable of scoring high on both tests with immense prep, it’s just that I would have to prep a lot more for the SAT and from my research the ACT seems much more manageable, especially for a student like me. But do yall thinking its worth it to take the risk for the act to forgo my last chance to take the old sat?? Any advice would be appreciated.
@wanderlustgal It really depends on you. Have you taken an ACT, and if so, how did you do? If you really work hard on your ACT, you CAN and will improve. Just take practice tests, review your answers, and watch as your scores increase. I’ve seen a 3-4 point increase in my ACT score just over this Thanksgiving break, and all I’ve been doing is taking 2 ACT sections every day (1-2 hours).
IMHO, I would go with the ACT, only if you’ve taken it already and feel comfortable with it.
Erm…am I the only one who said to hell with whole old SAT in its entirety?? Lol I’ve just really been focusing on prepping for the new SAT in March considering we’re the guinea pig class. I’ve taken a practice new SAT and scored a 1200/1600 with the essay (my lowest score). My track is to bring that SAT about a good 250 points at least which is totally possible with all the time we have until March! Also refocusing on the ACT to see what I can do. I signed up for the Februrary test and a practice exam in January so we’ll see how it goes!
@TheLandOfArielle FYI you know that March new SAT scores will not be released until mid-May right? That’s for them to set a curve and everything I would keep that in mind tbh
@ZBlue17 omggg I am in the same exact position as you! It is scarily similar. I’ve loved science all my life, and my mom is a doctor so she has had a big influence on my career path. But recently I’ve been thinking about going into business management! I can’t believe how similar our situations are!
@wanderlustgal If i were you, I wouldnt leave my SAT score a 2020. I would take it again and increase my score dramatically… 2200+ (by the January test). The ACT is easier to do well on. I’m sure you can get a 30 with no prep. Then with prep, you can perfect it. Three weeks to a solid month with rigorous prep could get you to a 34/35 with the ACT. Hopefully thats close enough to your goal. But all in all, I really think you should take the April ACT. February is too close and that is placing way too much stress on you. If you’re doing AP studying last minute then maybe the close dates might be a problem, but if youre spacing your studying out then you should be fine. I apologize if this is all over the place…I’m literally figuring this out as I type lol.
I literally have so much work to do before break is over. Like an AP Bio project, lots of calc work, several AP Lang practice essays, useless world history busywork and some extra credit. Oh and the SAT is next week .__.
I’m considering dropping APUSH and taking regular USH but I’m pretty conflicted about since I really love history, though I don’t plan on pursuing a career in it, and did pretty okay in AP World last year (94 average in class and 5 on the AP). In APUSH, I do well on the in-class essays, quizzes, and projects but I’m consistently scoring in the low 80s on tests, so my average in the class is a low B. My gpa already isn’t in great shape (93 UW, my school doesn’t do weighted) and I’m afraid continuing with this class will only lower it further. I’m taking three other APs this year, AP Psych, AP Lang&Comp, and AP Bio, and plan on taking 7 or so next year. Do you guys think colleges would look down on dropping APUSH since I took APWH last year and did okay?
@greeneggsandsam9 meee my childish teacher gave us packets for AP Chem. I’m not going to do them…srrry. My AP lang teacher is also playing games…making us do a fully processed argumentative essay over the break. That also will not be done. Then I have an essay for DC US History that I might be doing…we’ll see.
