High School Class of 2017

@bfc2017 yup I’m working on it! (:

@bfc2017 but then again my parents would never let me leave my state so…I’m not sure if I’ll end up submitting it sigh…

@athenanv13 A bit of a late reply since I haven’t been here in agesI agree with you. It bothers me so much when people cheat, especially when a top student does it. I mean, they should know better…

My New Year’s Resolutions:
• Work out more often since I don’t have P.E. anymore
• Read more often
• Be more involved in service
• Treat myself more (sometimes I push myself too hard, especially during the end of the school year)
• This one may sound silly, but meditate more
• This year I might finally come out to some of my close friends

@Greninja if it helps, I’m out to some of my friends. I made jokes about it. (Then again, a solid third of my friends are MOGAI.) If you want any help/moral support, PM me.

@Greninja Wishing you the best on that last point as well. PM me if you’d like to chat. (I’ve been pretty out at school for a year-ish.)

For those of you also taking the ACT, now that school is starting back up, do you have any tips as to how manage school work/extracurriculars with ACT prep?

@tigerman333 I took the SAT in October. To budget my time, I used the 50-10 strategy, where you spend 50 minutes on work and 10 minutes on a break. This seriously helped me finish my school work on time without burning out. Sometimes, things would get so busy during the day that I would finish everything by 10/10:30. At that point, my brain was too fried to really function well, so I allowed myself to go to sleep at that point but I woke up about an hour and 30 minutes early to do SAT prep.

When I got home every single day, I would take a quick break and then do an SAT practice essay (I’m not sure how this would work with the ACT though). I also took an official practice test every Saturday for about a month before the test.

I’m not sure what else I can say. Just seriously make sure you work efficiently. Also, it’s okay to not spend so much time on your ECs right now. This test is way more important for college admissions.

@neoking how much did you increase your score?

@neoking I might actually try the 50-10 thing because I cannot get myself to focus anymore. I come home from work and EC’s and it usually takes me until like 2am to finish my homework considering how much time I spend on breaks after trying to do hours worth of homework at once

@Studious99 On my first practice test, I got a 2020. On the real thing, I got a 2290! The hard work paid off in the end.

@coffeeaddicted Yeah, there’s no reason you should stay up that late. You have a body to take care of! Don’t sacrifice your health!

@neoking true… last year was worse though. I blame AP chem and caffeine

Also, you all, mistake analysis is a very good thing! Make sure that you know why the answer you put down was wrong, why the right answer was right, and how you should have known that the other answer was right.
If there seem to be themes, keep track!

My problem is no matter how I much I do, I just can’t seem to raise that score. I really want to get a 34+ and just be done.

@tigerman333 Same. :frowning: I feel like I’m stuck in the 33 rut, and my goal is 34+. The science section is the bane of my existence.

Eh, my IB coordinator is making me take a night class this semester (since it is theory of knowledge and it is only offered during one period and I have physics during that period)! Every Wednesday from 5-8 :(( :(( :((

Bye-bye sleep on Wednesday nights! :(( thank goodness I’m taking a study hall period this semester

At my school, Theory of Knowledge is either before school every day, after school on Tuesday and Thursday for 90 minutes each, or after school on Wednesdays from 5-8. I would prefer the 5-8 one, personally, but I’m not sure if we get to choose.

I go back to school tomorrow. Not sure whether I’m happy to see friends or if I’m sad because winter break ends.

Glad to be done with testing  (with the exception APs and SAT II’s.) I’m looking forward to this year

Is there anyone on here who already is fairly certain where they want to go for college?
