Speaking of USC, is anyone applying/know about the USC Bovard Scholar program? I got an email about it and I’m applying but there’s literally no information about it outside of their website.
@ivakk no way that’s pretty cool I’ve never met anyone famous! Her videos make me like USC but there’s no way I could pay for it $-)
yeah her college experience seems so great
@ivakk Thats awesome! Lol ive been watching her since she was mypreppystyle
I love watching college vlogs! Great substitute for college visits. I’m stuck in Texas, so many schools are super East, super West, or super North of me. All the great schools in Texas are 4+ hours south of my city too.
Some awesome vlogs:
-CathinCollege(Stanford)
-Simon Clark(Oxford/University of Exeter)
-Taylor Sison(Temple)
-Katherout(USC)
-Izzy D(UC Berkeley)
-CloeCouture(UCLA)
-Josh Katz(NYU)
-George Poulos(Wesleyan)
-MargotLee(Syracuse)
-Conan Grey(HS Senior, but he is goals!)
I have recommendations due for MITES this Wednesday and two of my teachers haven’t submitted. I reminded them both on Friday. Is it time to go full-blown panic mode?
@Soccer1235 I lowkey feel in love with USC through her vlogs, but the price is definitely concerning! Hopefully scholarships work out but we’ll have to see how that goes.
@kassh4 Same! Her channel has grown so much and it’s so weird that she’s already graduating from college haha
@Hamlon those are all great recs! Some other USC vloggers are Annemarie Chase, Markian, and Joi Wade (she documented her whole college application process last year which is cool)
I’ve been watching college vloggers for the last few years. They are definitely a good way to get a “digital feel” of the campus.
Also, just realized tomorrow’s Valentine’s Day. Can’t wait to be constantly rolling my eyes and try and avoid all the couples. :)) I’ve been a longtime member of the “Single on Valentine’s Day” club!
@Hamlon I would go remind them again tomorrow for sure. That would suck to have everything perfect and then recommendations come in late.
Hey guys! I haven’t been on in a while, junior year is absolutely killing me! Anyway, does anyone want to look at my senior year schedule and give me some advice? I’m planning on doing a double major in humanities and biology with a minor in international relations so that I can be a doctor at UNICEF or Doctors without Borders.
My schedule this year:
AP Chemistry
Honors Precalculus
AP English Literature
Medical Interventions
AP Physics 1
AP Economics
Schedule next year:
Honors Zoology
AP Calculus AB
Honors Humanities
Biomedical Innovations
Honors International Relations
AP US Government (1st semester)
Modern European History (2nd semester)
@Hamlon I went into panic mode also and just casually reminded them today. Just ask them tomorrow to have it done that night so the panicking doesn’t get worse lol
Are you guys thinking about paying for college yet? My dad says he might give me a lump sum and let me choose whether to spend it on college or not. ie. if I go to a cheaper college or get a full ride or something I get to keep the money.
Also anyone doing college visits over spring break? I’m planning to visit MIT, Northeastern, and WPI in the Boston area.
@Soccer1235 @solarsystem Thanks. The situation’s actually worse now because one of my teacher’s is having technical issues and can’t fill out the form. I have already contacted the summer oeop account. Hopefully if things don’t get resolved, they can extend the deadline for this rec.
@snowfairy137 I was filling out a whole bunch of cost calculators the other day. For most schools, I would have to work 40 hrs a week all summer(assuming min. wage) each year if I want to graduate debt-free. I’m going into college assuming my parents won’t be able to support me, so there’s that. I frantically started searching for multiple scholarships when the cost started to sink in. Also, who wants to work that much and end up with no money during the school year? I’m super thankful I already have about a thousand saved up from last summer.
@Hamlon yeah I’ll have to work for at least part of it too, since that’s how my dad got through college. My family probably doesn’t qualify for financial aid though, so it wouldn’t be fair for them to expect me to pay it all. Of course depends on which college I choose. I’ve been working my butt off getting a bunch of college credits in high school so I hope that will help.
I really need to raise my ACT. What are some great study prep options?
You have a 33 @aspiringgirl
@aspiringgirl to raise my score from a 34 (first practice test) to a 36 (official test), I went through all the free ACT tests online, and whenever I got an answer wrong I went over it and wrote down what I did wrong and why so I wouldn’t make the same mistake. Worked for me.
Oh hey @snowfairy137 How’s the online class going?
@nyuhopeful44 Is Honors Humanities an English class?
@snowfairy137 Money has basically become my top priority for my college search. While I will likely get decent financial aid, anything that isn’t covered by that, merit aid, or scholarships will need to be paid in loans. For this reason, I’m gravitating towards UConn more than ever, even if it doesn’t specialize in what I want to do. God bless in-state tuition.
For what it’s worth, based on what you have shared here, I think you will get lots of merit aid, snowfairy. Hopefully that offsets the lack of financial aid you recieve.
