High School Class of 2018

@LushLillies at mit you contact your interviewer and they’ll assign you that person like as soon as you start your application.

Do universities in the US require a transcript from Grade 9 to Grade 12 when applying? In my province, high school doesn’t start until Grade 10, and the transcripts here only have Grade 10 to Grade 12 (as universities in my province and probably the rest of Canada only look at marks from those grades).

I’m not sure if my transcript can include marks from Grade 9; I would have to ask my GC to ask if that is possible.

@acomfysofa Meh. Idk. These new-fangled iPhones are really trying to better their camera quality. :))

First day of school is tomorrow for me ;-;

@ak2018 haven taken ap photography, there’s still a lot you can do on a dslr that you cant with an iphone. a good photographer also knows how to make you feel comfortable in front of the camera so the pictures look better and will also do the editing (which is a standard part of all photography) and stuff like that. That being said, I’m not paying for pictures so eh. Still getting them taken with a DSLR and will edit them myself (cause I know how).

Hey everyone, I’m trying my best not to have panic attacks about Hurricane Irma as I live In South Florida. I hope everyone is having a great week. I’m just trying to stay positive and I’ll study for the ACT more assuming it’s canceled as the hurricane is worst than Katrina.

@Iridescentgaze Hope you and your friends and family stay safe this week. Hopefully it misses you.

Wow! I can’t stop getting spammed by colleges! It’s nice and all but it’s also a bit much, any tips on how to handle this?

@Futureanimator Opt out of mailing lists?

@futureanimator for email, I unsubscribe from a bunch, and for postal mail, that’s why you have recycling!

@everyone being hit with hurricanes
One, I’m really sorry, that’s super awful and if I was religious I would pray for you. Since I’m not, I’m sending you my best wishes and I really hope they don’t do any more damage.
Two, can you please send some water up here! The air is actually hazardous to breathe because of all the wildfire smoke :frowning:

Why is everything so extreme?!

Today was tiring and we already have a ton of hw., I’m drowning in activities and want to sleep oof… This will be a tough yr. I’m still debating if I should drop an AP…?

Anyone else really worried about their August SAT score? For me, if the score is good enough then this will be my last SAT, and I absolutely don’t want to take anymore standardized tests!

BTW I took my SAT in Buffalo for the US-only August SAT. Flew to Toronto to visit family, and that happened to be around the time the August SAT was administered, so I took a 2-hour road trip to Buffalo :slight_smile: Surprised that lots of people from Ontario were taking the test in Buffalo. This was my first visit to the US. Though I didn’t visit Buffalo only for the SAT because that would’ve been boring. I got to visit a USH museum (kind of weird seeing all these things I learned about for the USH subject test in a physical place), first time eating at a Cajun restaurant with better Mac and Cheese than I have ever tasted in Canada (and ate cornbread for the first time, which was really good), and surprised there were Tim Horton’s in the US.

@acomfysofa I actually felt the same way about USH when I visited DC and Boston. I live very very far away (WA State) and it was cool to see stuff like Paul Revere’s house in person after learning about that I school.
Third closest (geographically) school I’m applying to is U of British Columbia lol and I’ve literally been to Canada more than the East coast of the U.S… (Also crossed the border illegally on a school field trip but we won’t get into that… :)))

I just got the secretary position for NHS! It’s small but I think it’s a nice achievement for me, considering I haven’t done much else ^^;

@agentaquastar Awesome!

According to someone on CC, I qualified for NMSF!! My school administration wont tell anyone anything until the press release date though.

Holy heck today was my first day and it was very hectic.

You know that independent science study I was doing? Well I found out this morning before homeroom when I went to ask my science teacher what period she wanted me to come down that they loaded her with more teaching periods and that she had so much on her plate that she can’t have me. So, off to my guidance counselor to sort everything out, seeing as I now had 2 every day study halls and even I don’t need that much.

So, after determining that no other science course that I hadn’t already taken could fit in my schedule, and insisting that I didn’t want to drop any other courses I’m taking to make one fit, I took a business course called Career and Financial Management. It’s a 6 credit class through my high school’s college course program with the local CC that teaches real world knowledge such as making a resume, interviewing for jobs, seeing what careers I would do well in, including researching at least 2 different college degrees (which would be helpful if I wasn’t in senior year, already applying for college) and the other half of the year is personal finance stuff, like balancing a checkbook, taxes, etc etc.

It would be awesome, except most, if not all, of the kids in this class don’t want to be there, and were pretty much forced into it by their parents/guidance counselor/etc. The atmosphere in this class is going to be interesting, to say the least.

I took the SAT with you at Buffalo. I live near Buffalo. I thought that the reading section was pain in the neck. What score are you expecting?
@acomfysofa

I did something awesome in Chem today!!

I underestimated how overwhelmed I was going to be in French this year after not taking it for a year and joining a class that is way better at French then me. Our teacher speaks a lot of French to them really quickly, and I pick up maybe 25% of what she is saying to them. I just finished my first assignment and I feel almost panicky. We had to do a one minute flipgrid of us speaking about our summer, which required using past tense, which I barely remembered, which meant poring over old class notes and internally dying during my 6th period study hall :(( I’m sure I’ll get there, but it’s definitely going to take a while because the class I was in before (with my grade) didn’t really take learning French too seriously so we all mostly spoke in English and struggled with speaking French during presentations and stuff, while the class I’m in now (with juniors) are way more advanced and can understand more French and when it’s spoken fast, too. I just feel really overwhelmed and while I knew I would, I didn’t think it would be to this extent.
