High School Class of 2019

I don’t go back til late August. Summer days are flying by.

My district did a stupid thing, they wanted to move our start date a week earlier than it has been, so we had a shorter summer

I don’t go back till September 6th

I go back August 29th

August 5

August 9

@awesomepolyglot A Friday? :confused:

Yeah. There’s kind of a two-pronged system that allows my school (and district) to avoid the first-week-of school mayhem:

On July 27, there’s a Red Letter Day, which is not mandatory (but very highly recommended). You go and get your schedule, locker, forms, and most textbooks. (Math is moving to consumable textbooks, which we don’t get until at least the first day, so I’ll get German, Bio, Chem, and maybe English and Personal Finance.) You might get to meet some of your teachers, but only if they’re working that day. RLD is about 2 hours long and can serve as a good time to catch up with friends. Some people use this time to walk around and navigate their daily schedule and locker stops.

On Augusts 5th, there is the very mandatory first day. You go to your schedule pickup location, turn in forms, get an official version of your schedule. This is a half day, so you’re only in class for about 30 minutes. You get your consumable English and math textbooks (in most cases). Most teachers will distribute a supply list at this time. They’ll also go over the syllabus and class rules as well as give out “homework”, which is mostly just stuff to sign that says “I won’t be a lazy butt and will respect the class”. Some, like my Bio Honors teacher, will give out readings.

The 5th, 6th, and 7th will be chaotic as literally thousands of high school students swarm every Target, Costco, Walmart, and CVS throughout the county. You’ve got to move [/]fast[/] to get things like Mead 5-Star 5-Subject College Ruled notebooks, which some of the most common classes are starting to require.

I’m really excited. I already know who my Bio, German, and Orchestra teachers are, and I know who I want for Chem and English. I don’t know anything about the Personal Finance teacher, or even if there’s more than one, and I hear that the PE2 and Algebra 2 teachers are sort of meh.

Our school starts on a Thursday. I have an XC meet on the second day of school (Friday), so I leave after 2nd period on that day lmao. It’ll be really fun to tell my teachers I have to miss tmrw on the first day of school

I had my McDonald’s orientation yesterday! I sat there for 2.5 hours learning about policies and doing paperwork. At least I was paid! I start my first actual work day tomorrow.

School starts on August 29th for me. Schedule pickups should be soon.

And now I have to go volunteer today…

@IrrationalPepsi Welcome to the working world!

(I’ve heard that food service is not entirely the most fun. I’m in recreation  )

Honestly hate my school, just found out AP Econ isn’t going to happen because legit me and one other person signed up for it. I’m so disgusted. My school has got to stop playing games like this.

@IrrationalPepsi, wow, your schedule pick-up is early! Mine is literally 4 days before school starts.

@lunarboy, that’s terrible! That happened to me too, for the Academic Decathlon class at my school

RLD is gonna be lit

I wish my school taught AP Econ, I think that and psych are the only ones we don’t have :-/

Mine has all of them but:
AP Japanese, Chinese, French, Latin, Spanish Lit (span Lang is the only ap language)
APCSP
Seminar and Research
Physics B
One of the AP arts

And we usually have a gov and an Econ missing each year. But we’ve got almost all of the STEM and humanities APs.

My school doesn’t have AP CS/CSP, Physics 1 or 2, microecon, comp gov, or any language but Spanish Lang and lit. It sucks, I had to take AP CS online last year cause my school didn’t have it, and I have to take physics honors this year cause my school doesn’t have AP

@lunarboy The same thing happened to me! Previously, rising sophmores at my school could only sign up for APUSH as their only AP. But, then they added AP English and everyone flocked to that class. I decided on APUSH and we have 9-10 kids but they only run the class if there are at least 15. And I can’t switch over to AP English since you had to take Honors English 1( which I did not since I was not aware of this). And it really upsets me because I was actually really looking forward to it. An AP class lasts all year in my school and you usually only have room for 2 or 3 a year after sophomore year because of all of our other required courses. It especially fustruates me because now at the most I will only have very few APs when I graduate.

I’m really excited to get my schedule, idk when we get it though.

I might be going back August 28th but it’s not set in stone. Pickup date for schedules reportedly Aug 25. Honestly wish I had it already so I can plan my materials that i’ll need and locker stops based on my schedule.
