This is a new strategy in my state, complete with scholarship money for the first year of college. At the same time, our governor wants these same students to then finish college in three years. The biggest downside is that these early graduates don’t get all the AP classes and that extra year of maturity that would make them attractive candidates to schools outside of the state, or to the more selective colleges in the region. We already have abysmal college graduation rates and by sending these kids off to school early we are doing them no favors.
