Hip Huggers and Bell Bottoms Versus Low Rise and Flare

^^^^lol!!!^^^^

Do you remember sewing vee shaped inserts into the side of your jeans to make them 'flare or bell", or sewing braid around the hem. Or how about those long fringe belts and purses made by sewing across the top of the leg area of the jeans. Was all of this before or after smock tops and Farrah Faucett hair?

Who made a denim skirt by cutting off the bell bottom jeans and then piecing a triangle shaped piece of denim into the front and back??? My Mom made one for me. I thought I was so stylish.

I also wore boys denim Levi’s and cords in h.s. Remember they came in a rainbow of colors? I had dark blue, green, brown and light blue.

Does anyone else remember “peasant dresses” - full length cotton dresses circa 1971?

I loved my purple crushed velvet elephant bells. Also my purple body suit and tights worn with a bright pink mini dress. And there was mywhite mini skirt that mysteriously disappearred. Mom admitted years later that she threw it away. Ha- my daughters would love to see those photos.

Boy, isn’t that the truth. I remember in 6th grade our skirts were required to be no more than two inches above the knee. Girls had to kneel on chairs and have it measured with a yard stick if there was any doubt and would be sent home to change if in violation (public school system in Virginia). I think nice pantsuits were allowed, but no jeans. By high school (in NY by that time), we all dressed like the cast of Hair.

Dittos, lots and lots of dittos when I was in Jr. High. I think atomom, mom60 and I must be the same age - or we went to the same school :)

And to think that all that fashion sense led up to every girl in my high school wearing a turtle neck with a necklace hanging over it for senior pix. Don’t forget about bib overalls!

I think I must have been in elementary school when you Jr Highers of the early 70s sported your fancy duds, because I recall desperately wanting to look like the older girls! My mother made sure that I never had a chance  But I let my inner fashionista run wild in the early 80s :p

I actually had a wide blue belt with a frog buckle, purchased at the Sears lemon frog shop - and a blue and white body suit, and a pair of (get this) lowcut- vertically-striped-red-blue-white bell-bottom pants, worn with the wide blue frog belt, body suit and a large metal peace sign around my neck, with running shoes (shoes with stripes and NO arch support, just little rubber sole). I was a sight for sore eyes!!!

Hip huggers were higher than many of the low rises of today, which barely cover the pubic area.

I fondly recall my Landlubbers: hip hugging bell bottoms.

I remember wearing my bell bottoms really long and the back dragged on the ground so much that I think I lost 2 inches off the back side.

I still love the smell of Brut. Remember Lip Smackers (watermelon was my fav)

I had a Heaven Scent ring…the top opened and had a waxy scented substance inside. Paper dresses were popular for about a minute. Mary Janes…desert boots,. Rat finks, ■■■■■ dolls…was it that long ago? Autograph dogs, that was grammar school.
