I don’t understand why Mexicans and Puetro-Ricans woudl have URM status and other hispanics wouldn’t.

<– Mexican American
I win!

the answer is very simple…there are more mexican-american applicants than “other hispanic” applicants…that would no doubt account for the difference…secondly, that accurately reflects the u.s. population anyway…mexican-america/chicanos are the largest hispanic faction in the united states…also, look at the hispanics from the cc boards…most are mexican or puerto rican…every now and then there’ll be one with caribbean or south american heritage, but most hispanic applicants are of mexican descent…

ah, here we are…almost 75% of the american hispanic population is mexican-american or puerto rican

<a href=“Tapia Center for Excellence and Equity in Education | Rice University”>Tapia Center for Excellence and Equity in Education | Rice University;

this might explain why there are an overly abundant proportion of mexican-americans at yale…in fact, at princeton, if i can find those stats, almost half are non-mexican/puerto rican…so if anything, the statistics would suggest hispanics are viewed more homogenously than stated earlier

you do know that while there are mexican americans applying, the number is very few?

there are 5x more “hispanics” that apply than puerto ricans or mexican americans.

how on earth could you possibly prove that?

not to mention, on these boards alone…i’ve seen one cuban-american, one peruvian, and 4 mexican-americans along with one puerto rican…not sure exactly where you’re getting the 5X more idea…

btw, you’re not counting internationals from spanish-speaking countries…are you?..i just have a hard time trying to believe that for every mexican or puerto rican who applies, there are five south american applicants…“other hispanics” make up less than 14% of the entire u.s. hispanic population (doesnt include caribbean)…there are way more mexican-american applicants than say argentinian-american or bolivian-american applicants…there are simply way more of you guys living in the u.s. than those of south american descent…show me a hyperlink to a LEGITIMATE source that prove your 5x theory, and then i’ll believe you…

…last i thought, they didnt release those kind of statistics amnesia

one more thing…just for your own observation

roughly 65% of the american hispanic population is mexican-american

<a href=“Tapia Center for Excellence and Equity in Education | Rice University”>Tapia Center for Excellence and Equity in Education | Rice University;

but…approximately 55% of the princeton hispanic population is mexican-american…(3.6/6.6%)

…not sure what to tell you, but it would seem that mexican-americans might actually get the short-end of the stick…but that’s not controlling for socioeconomic status or the number who apply…since none of us actually know the breakdown of the hispanic applicant pool

bump it, come on amnesia, where are you?

if the majority of applicants + the entire Hispanic popluation in the US is mexican it seems to me it would make more sense to actively recruit all Hispanics, esp those that are more poorly represented at their schools

i hope you’re right sew

where am I what?
