Eons ago, I bought a flower centerpiece that was set into a foam block inside a metal turkey-shaped container. The flowers looked like they were turkey feathers. I reuse it every thanksgiving - just buy a mixed bouquet and use it to fill the block. Pillar candle in the center, and it looks festive and does not obscure the table.
I had to look up the giant clam advice. Here is more decorating advice:

That bread cornucopia is a great idea. Not sure what I’m doing, but that is very tempting. Ivanka’s clam centerpiece. Meh. The memes? Priceless!

On Dr. Who (Tom Baker) encountered a giant clam (monster) with Sarah Jane. When DH and I saw that many years ago, we laughed. The only way a giant clam could be dangerous is if you step in it. Of course they did. That’s what that centerpiece reminds me of. I think the centerpiece would look better with a Tardis and Tom Baker striped scarf in it and maybe some jelly babies and a pocket watch.
Similar to @musicmom1215, I flip over wine glasses (the wide ones), and place tiny pumpkins on top, and within the wine glass if I can find small enough ones. I have some pretty silk leaves in autumnal colors that I scatter under the glasses. I put all of the leaves and glasses on my mother’s silver tea service tray; if the table gets too crowded, I can pick the whole thing up and move it.
Hats off to you all for being creative AND even thinking of a centerpiece - not something I do!
Please report back on the bread cornucopia if you make it - I’m curious. Wondering if it’s something that looks simple but wondering if the results will be as pleasing.
Someone I know who works in a seasonal bakery told me they make cornucopias with packaged dough of some kind, just like in the video. I really love those cheese creations!
I might make a smaller version of the cornucopia but I’m definitely making that little cream cheese pumpkin!
You could make a red pear too, by mixing cranberry sauce with the cream cheese.
I’ve made dips where I mixed cranberry sauce with cream cheese, with finely chopped jalepenos and scallions, and baked it in the center of a pie plate with pizza dough formed into little ball around the perimeter. That’s an easy way to make a “social” dish for a party. You can use other ingredients with the cream cheese too. I mixed some italian olive salad plus lemon zest and it was a big hit.
There are many who are lactose intolerant in my social circle but you could use guacamole that you shape, humus that you add ingredients for color and different flavor to, pate, etc. I had not thought about making appetizers but the bread cornucopia is super cute and started me thinking.
I made the bread cornucopia this morning. It looks pretty cute. I’m using grapes/cheese/crackers/apple slices to arrange in and around it. Can’t wait to see it all done.
The desserts are finally done! Apple pie, pumpkin pie, chocolate chip cheesecakes, and key lime pie.
On to the chopping.
I use a tray that mimics the shape of the table (so rectangular tray for rectangular table, round tray for round table, etc.). I put pillar candles on the tray; sometimes I’ll put rub on transfer letters on the candles to spell something seasonal like “joy”. Then I put something seasonal on the bottom of the tray surrounding the candles - something like acorns, little silver jingle bells, etc.
Also sometimes I’ll put a smaller vase inside a bigger one and in the space between the two vases I’ll put something small like red hots or other small candies, then put flowers in the smaller vase.
Or, for Thanksgiving, I’ll fill a vase with fresh cranberries and water, and then put flowers in the case.
I get most of my ideas online.
I also made the cornucopia today. I couldn’t find breadstick dough so used rolled out crescent sheets. H and S are very impressed!
One year my brother said the only vegetable he didn’t like was Brussels sprouts. I found whole stocks at Trader Joe’s and made it my centerpiece.
Thanks! my-3sons, my store was also out of breadsticks and I was so glad I had read your post.
How are you storing it tonight? Was the foil easy to take out?
If you go to a friend’s house, and the hostess uses a baked cornucopia appetizer, chances are she is a CCer.
I left some of the foil in and wrapped it in Saran Wrap.
Sorry, just saw your question. I, also, left some foil in and wrapped in Saran Wrap. Foil seemed a little stuck in the “tail” but I just twisted until it popped out.
I made mine with large crescent rolls. Some issues with the rolls getting too softened were hard to work with.
Also the larger part of the foil would not come out. Still, it was quite dramatic and was
tasty. Thanks!
