<p>Something ‘nicer’ that’s also practical–Hunter rain boots (instead of the cheap ones that crack every year), a nice trenchcoat/raincoat, a nice winter coat, etc. I know that I always needed that stuff but never wanted to spend the money on something that would last</p>
<p>Agree with card games. We will be getting pajama bottoms, gift certificates to school bookstore for more red shirts. He has already lost his “digital gloves” so those will need to be replaced.
In his rural small town the big treat out is a local wings restaurant and a movie theater, so gift cards for both will be nice. we are also paying for a date night with local girlfriend while he is home.</p>
<p>S1 and his gf requested a zipcar gift card so they could take excursions that would be too difficult using public transportation. He said they always think about using zipcar to do those sorts of things, but it would become cost prohibitive for them to do it too often.</p>
<p>Agree with sureofsomething (#19) about the massage chair. </p>
<p>Probably not for the OP, but perhaps for someone else reading the thread–last year, I gave DS a pair of glove that work on a touch screen. Got the idea on CC.</p>
<p>This year a new cell phone. His current on still works, but the screen is cracked.</p>
<p>Something annoying:
When relatives ask what to get your college aged child and you tell them gift cards (cause really they don’t have a lot of needs/wants that are pressing) and they go ahead and get random, not-of-use gifts anyway. I have a hard enough time getting a few gifts under the tree for my S because he just is not a “stuff” kid!!! But a gift card that allows him to purchase a new pair of Pumas or something makes his day! Even if he doesn’t use it till summertime!</p>
