We watched Heidelberg Holiday on Hallmark, only because we had been to Heidelberg a few years ago and wanted to reminisce. TERRIBLE movie–lead character was named Heidi Heidelberg–REALLY??? Plot was beyond predictable, but I hear that’s normal modus operandi on Hallmark.
We just watched Last Christmas! I had never heard of it. We really enjoyed it.
I have fond memories of rewatching Barbie in the Nutcracker (2001) over and over again.
“Barbie in the Nutcracker was choreographed by the [New York City Ballet]. The film’s music, based on Tchaikovsky’s score for The Nutcracker, was performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. The film’s ballet sequences feature the movement of New York City Ballet dancers computer-animated through motion capture imaging.”

I just taped A Heidelberg Holiday as I am curious now. It is on December 20 at 2pm. I’ve been to Heidelberg decades ago. Sorry it was terrible.
My Norwegian Holiday is on December 23 at 10am. Like many Hallmark movies, there are crazy coincidences, but I still liked it. The leads and their chemistry and acting can make a difference in how enjoyable the movie is. But, many of the movies are definitely pretty predictable.
Oh no, oh no. You don’t know how many times my girls watched this Barbie movie.
I may know it by heart
H and I watched Last Christmas the week before last. At first H insisted that we had watched it before, but I know I had never seen it. It was a lovely Christmas movie and the music was great!
I feel like terrible is to expected with the Hallmark movies and that in no way diminishes the enjoyment. In fact, sometimes, the worse/more implausible/most treacly/devoid of chemistry ones are the most fun to chill out during!
Another vote for Christmas with the Kranks. Very family friendly and great for empty nesters. It has sneaked into our usual rotation the last few years. (Our usual rotation is listed by many people above). Best Man Holiday is so well done, friendship, marriage, and a little heart wrenching. Good for a cry if you need one.
Implausible with Hallmark I can take but I still enjoy chemistry. And I particularly enjoy a few of the actors that pop up alot and like to watch those actors. Yes, Hallmark has tons of Christmas movies, some better than others. But, they seem to have perfected their formula and seem to be able to crank out many holiday movies every year.
My family watches it too. It’s such an oldy but goody!! My daughters especially love “Sisters” —they sing along and dance!!
Agree, its the chemistry (and also to me the dialogue) that makes a good Hallmark movie. Overall the formula seems to be a couple meet that ordinarily wouldn’t and hit it off, with about twenty minutes left a misunderstanding breaks them apart, but all is made well in the last five. The writers can play with the encounter scenario; stranded due to cancelled flights, royalty escaping from pressure at home and visiting the US incognito, contest participants from different social strata, etc. Often when the movie starts friends are urging one or both of the couple to “put yourself out there again” (for some reason they like using that exact line). When it works the movie can be fun to watch even if they are predictable.
Perfect synopsis and why no one should ever admit to watching such garbage.
Ooops. Did I actually post that?
I didn’t love The Family Stone first time I watched it. Now I do!
My fav is Love Actually. I’ve watched it so much I’m burned out on it. Won’t be watching this year for a break. I know it by heart.
Thanks to this thread, we laughed a lot last night at Christmas with the Franks (Amazon Prime).
It reminded me sometimes of the Home Alone vibe… surprised I have not seen that mentioned here. I would be willing to re-watch it if the kids are eager when visiting - it’s available on Disney+
I have no shame in admitting I watch a Hallmark movie now and again! There is only so much CNN I can take!
Same for me. If you record them and fast forward through the commercials, you can watch one in 1 hour, 20 minutes. You’ll get a happy ending, though the premise may be absurd. With no new episodes of regular tv shows, Hallmark has been a lifeline for me this fall as I don’t generally watch reruns.
Haven’t seen this yet, but I loved Rick Hoffman (Louis Litt) in Suits, and plan to watch a Hallmark Christmas movie that he’s in this season. It’s called Round and Round and is now steaming on Peacock.
Although the George C. Scott version of A Christmas Carolis my favorite version, I will watch any version of the movie. I loved The Muppet Christmas, Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol, Mickey’s Christmas Carol, Alastair Sim’s version. I will watch almost any of them. I am a sucker for that movie.
My DH’s favorites are White Christmas and A Christmas Story. He and his brother will laugh until they cry when they talk about A Christmas Story. My late DMIL had never seen the movie and could not figure out why they were laughing so hard.
I watched Love Actually for the first time this weekend. I was a little skeptical at the beginning - just didn’t seem to have the “umph” I was expecting but it sure came together in the end and I was having happy tears!!! Good recommendation.
